Sky lights

I decided to clean my sky lights which are under maxi air covers from day one. It is not the first time I cleaned them. This time when I touched them they fell apart. I presume they were weakened from UV rays, even though they were covered with maxi air covers, Replacement was only a 45 min job.

How old is your Montana, and are you talking vent cover? I have heard of older vent covers that fall apart due to UV damage. The only Sky Light I know of is the one over the shower.

UV goes thru about anything. I have the silver foil installed in the attic of my stick house and does what it is advertised to do as far as utility bill savings. I didn't put it under the garage roof area. I had two 4'X4' pieces of accustic foam stored in my attic ... one piece under the main roof where the foil was installed, and one piece under the garage roof. After a year or so, I went to use some of it on a project ... the foam stored over the garage just fell to pieces in my hands ... the foam stored under the roof with the foil was still pliable. Soooo, although a Max vent may stand up to the sun better than your standard roof vents ... it won't protect them from UV.

Is there any generalization of how long the covers will last? Our rig is three years old and we don't have the covers. We inspect regularly but don't see any sign of deterioration....yet!
