Awning Ghost

Awning won't retract on battery!!! Awning was out and we lost 115 volts. We went to retract and nothing happened! Checked fuses, nothing illuminated. Power came back on and awning would retract with converter power! Turned off converter and awning would not open or close, however we had lights, etc. After a half hour of tightening battery connections and cycling red disconnect switches, everything started working again. As battery connections weren't really loose, all I can guess is the main disconnect switch I installed on the batteries ground must have picked up a film or corrosion and cycling it several time cleared the contacts.

If it's not one thing, it's another.
What would we do to keep ourselves out of trouble without our RVs?

Update! Two items affecting this problem now discovered. First, crimp on original positive battery terminal loose! Second, retract side of inside switch bad! Crimped terminal and replaced Out - Retract switch and awning now works again.
