New guy with a question

Bought a 2013 Montana 3582RL last year. We went on a couple week long vacations to the local lakes in the DFW area and had a great time. Learned on the 2nd trip that the tires needed replaced. Blew one of the Goodyear's out headed to the lake but caught it when it started smoking and was able to stop quickly and no real damage. We were not so lucky on the return home. Lost a rear tire at 60 mph and it blew out big time. Sounded like a shot gun going off in the cab and shot a chunk of rubber across the hood of a car that was driving next to me. It also ripped the fender skirt of the 5th wheel out. Love the hydraulic jacks on my Montana. Changed tire and back on the road in less than 30 minutes.

My big question is where can I buy a fender skirt without going to a dealer? I afraid that there are a couple places on the one that was blown off that has creases pretty bad and will not straighten without cracking.

We call the GY tires that came on most of these campers China Bombs. I would strongly suggest you get rid of them and get you a set of G rated tires. You will have this problem again. Tires are the most talked about item in the summer.

Had a tire blow on the old rig. Got the proper fender from Trekwood.com
Good price and easy folks to work with.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll be checking out the suggested sites this week.

Once I made the other 40 miles to the house that day I replaced the tires before it left the house for storage. I got a good deal on Simpletire.com. Installed a set of Sailun G-rated tires. They look good and the 5th wheel pulled good to storage. My brother run these on his DRV and liked them. Bought all (4) and mounted for less money than (2) Goodyear G-rated. Tried getting Goodyear to warranty my blow out but they turned me down. Four year old tire, even sent it back to the factory.

Thanks for everyone's comments. It is greatly appreciated.

DQDick has the best site for replacement parts. We also have a 2013 3582RL and I would not leave the dealers lot until they changed out the tires on the unit. I went with the Goodyear G 614s which were the best at the time but now Keystone is putting G rated Sailuns on the units.

Duh, got it. New to this blog thing. Going to call Trekwood and see if they can match something up. I was unable to match any skirt they had listed. I called it a fender skirt but its nothing like what Trekwood has listed. It's a piece of sheet metal about 12" by 8'. Ill get it figured out. Going to call Montana and see if i can get it from them at a reasonable price. Thanks again for the info

Ah ha, you were not really referring to the plastic fender but rather the metal "J' panel sideing along the bottom. Hopefully you have a standard color panel (i.e. not painted) since almost any RV repair shop will have it.

You need the metal panel that go's along the bottom of the wall they call that the J panel.
not the fender skirt. RV repair ship should be able to get it.
