Goodyear Marathons Made in the U.S.A.

I talked to the Goodyear rep today at the Good Sam Rally. He was aware of the Marathon problems. He said, that is why they are now and for over a year have been made in the U.S.A. He says all new rigs coming out now will have the U.S.A. tires on them. So if you have a new rig, check your tires, they may just say made in the U.S.A. on them.

I have recently become aquainted with the Goodyear manufacturing plant manager here in Fayetteville, N.C. He was very interested in what I told him about our forum and other threads. I gave him websites. He seemed to be genuine in his interest and said that he was unaware as thy didn't build them at this plant, but was going to look into it.

It would be a good thing if Goodyear corrected this problem. Unfortunately the horse has already left the barn on these tires. A sullied reputation is difficult to regain and at least on this forum the Marathons confidence rating is very near zero.
I would be interested to see what (if anything) has changed with these tires other than the manufacturing location that would warrant a change in consumer confidence. JMHO

They need to rename them when they get them corrected. Marathon will always mean "China Bomb" to most. Kudos to Good Year for addressing the problem. I will continue to buy Good Year tires.

Send a message via Yahoo to NCFischers
I would still run LT tires as they have a higher speed rating than ST tires and I trust them more..

I am happy to hear the news about Matathons. I will stick with my LT tires. For my money they can stop making ST tires for large trailers, D and E load range, all together.

Since the Marathon has such a bad reputation, and deservedly so in my opinion, if Goodyear was just a little bit smarter they'd change the name of the tires now made in the USA. It makes no sense to me to try to correct the cause of the problem and then continue to carry the baggage of the bad reputation.

I have a 2011 model Montaineer 347THT with the infamous China made Marathons. We've towed 2 summers now with them over 10k miles in 100 degree plus weather without a single tire issue. We have a TPMS Tireminder from CW and wouldn't leave home without it. I guess we are just lucky.

Dave, did the GY rep indicate to you where the US Marathons are made?

You're like a cat on its 12/9 lives. You have been lucky. Dump them before they dump you! You're taking a big risk if you don't!

If someone with the new ones could give us the mfr code we could google to find out where it was made. That's how we found out our G614's were made a few miles from our former home in Topeka, KS.

I kinda think the Goodyear Rep may have been speculating as to what might happen in the future. If in fact they'd been manufactured in the USA for the last year I think someone on this forum might have noticed and let all of us know. Making them here would be a major shift in a lot of things for Mr. Goodyear and anyway, would anything really change besides the country of manufacture assuming Goodyear applied the same quality control?

I have a 2010 3400 RL with the marathon tires made in China ,they have been built the 47 week of 2009 and have less then 1500 miles on them
I have bought 5 bf Goodrich to replace them ,they are at my son shop right now and I am waiting for a cooler day to remove the wheels of the Monty
In my driveway and install the B F Goodrich.
I do not have any experience with the RV tires and I relied only on the forum posts from many of you to purchase the BF Goodrich.

I will look at my tires on my 2011 3580RL and see if I can find the info you need. Might be a day or two though.

I expect that this has been covered time and time again but I too have the "china bombs" on my 2010 3750FL, and have been thinking of upgrading them. Recommendations please. Thanks

Well I just checked my Monty. A 2011 3580RL manufactured in April and delivered in May. The bad news is...they are still installing the Chinese Marthons! The good news is...the BFGoodrich Commerical TA's are coming soon!

Snowhawk2, I put the 614's on our 3750, before it left the dealers lot. Checking the total weight allowance on the rig yields close to 16,000. I don't think there is another LT type tire that will work with that weight. I am happy with my decision, albeit it was a somewhat expensive one. This is posted only to relate what we did on our 3750 and should not be considered to be advice or an endorsement in any way, but again, I am happy with the decision and do not regret it.

Hey Guys, not to rain on anyone's parade, but I just got back from the Goodyear dealer as one my "Marathon" tires came apart. Fortunately no damage to rig. He checked with Goodyear rep. regarding adjustments towards new tires and she stated that Marathons WERE made here for a short time, but NOW all made back in CHINA. Did get a good deal on G614 (still expensive) but was able to get adjust. of 117.00 per Marathon tire. soooo Next week all new sneakers includ. spare. Hopefully that's the last I'll need on this rig. Dealer said it was an interesting conversation with GY rep. as she hemmed and hawed regarding problems with tires but was quick to agree to adjustments for upgrade. Anyway, thought I'd throw that info from the GY rep into the discussion. So who is telling it straight? don't know but I'm not taking any chances anymore. Good luck folks.
