Generator adding hours without running!

I added a brand new Generator finally got around to checking it out I purchased my 3150 back in July. The hour meter read 0 hours. I checked it this weekend and I now have 187.6 hours. I have only added 5 gallons of propane during this time. Anyone have any suggestions? The Onan has a Quartz hour meter in the trailer.

So are you saying that you never have run the generator since you purchased it in July and it now has 187.6 hours; or are you saying that its been runing off and on since July?

It sounds like the hour meter is not properly connected to the generator. Was the generator factory installed or was it added afterwards? A quick check would be to put a voltmeter on the hour meter terminals (+ and - on the back of the meter) and see if there is 12v present when the generator is not running?? If there is 12v present, then it is either wired wrong to the generator, you may have a loose wire at either the genset or the meter, or the meter is bad. The next thing is to know whether you have the installation sheet for the hour meter to see if the connections were properly made. Hope this helps, keep us informed as many of us with the same gensets are curious.

Dealer installed the generator the hours have stopped at 187.6. I am going to have it checked out in the warranty dept. I will let everyone know what the results are. I have never ran the generator more than an hout total. I checked the oil and it is clean just like a new generator that has never been run.

Sounds like the dealer goofed. Hopefully they can resolve the situation and get it right the second time around??

I am having the same issue on my 2020 3721RL that I ordered from the factory last year. I was wondering If the was a resolution. Mine has over 850 hours but may have been run an hour as well. I wintered for two months in Texas in January and February and have yet to empty a propane tank. Must be a miss wire.

The hour meter is getting power when the generator isn't running; I'd guess via shore power.

Words to my ears. I had to have our brand new coach re wired because of a dealership not installing the gen set right. Go back and look at my post from April 2020

If you are getting an electrical current to your hour meter which it seems you are then your hour meter will keep registering time on the meter. I have 2 portable generators and the hour meter is wired to the switch so when the switch is on the meter is registering and when off it is not.
