Tried it today

I tried geocaching today. Did it several years ago and found one cache out of one try. Went searching today for a cache and found out that this one previous find did not make me a pro. Gonna try a few more and then hopefully will know more about the process by mid-April when we take off again for a couple of months. This sounds like a great way to "visit" different areas of the country. One question, what would upgrading my geocaching membership do to add to what is already available on the geocaching.com site?

Becoming a member allows you to download in a batch. I am sure there was something else, but it escapes me at the moment.

I think it is called a Premium Membership for $30/year. I find it helpful because I can get maps easily. We cache everywhere we go, so a little planning with a good map generally helps--maybe it only makes us look like we are not completely lost! It is a great activity. We have enjoyed all the spots that we have found and generally download more caches with the info sheet than we will ever find in a general area. That way we have lots of choices. I think the cacheing in and around Santa Fe, NM is really great. You can take a bus downtown from the outlying RV parks, and then see lots of downtown while cacheing. Have a BLAST!

Thanks, folks. I have been wanting to get started with this ever since Phil and Cathy put on the Geocaching seminar at the fall rally.

FOUND ONE! Finally found a virtual cache. Now that we have that one out of the way, we are ready to try some others now. In about three weeks, we are heading west and looking forward to geocaching in KC, Omaha, Casper, Sundance, Rapid City, et al. Thanks again, Phil and Cathy, for the great intro in Goshen.

The premium membership makes everything easier and it gets you into the forum where you can ask questions and get some tips. We made up a little geocaching tool bag that we can just grab and it has everything we need all in one spot.
