We have encountered absolutely not glue or irritating smells in our new 3400.

I remember the freezing threads. I didn't have a problem, but I know I formed a little ice. Could get worse. I will probably crack the fan a little. If you are trying to maintain 73-74 degrees inside during extreme weather, what do you set the Fantastik Fan at?

Perhaps there are some a/c folks out there but we have been told not to attempt to maintain a more the 20 degree temp difference between outside and inside temps. We actually keep our A/C both in the camper and in the house set a 80 degrees. It wrings out the humidity and is comfortable for us. In the camper we keep all the roof vents cracked a bit and the F/F on manual low..We have encountered no problems as of yet. We also run the camper A/C on auto, Again no problems as of yet and we maintain temp. Experiment with A /C temps and see what is good for you. We did all of the above in our previous camper and no not recall ever having a freezing problem...

The fumes in our rig were present the first and second seasons we had it. They only came out in the heat when it was sitting between outings. I knew it was from the manufacturing process, so I figured if I let if get good and hot with an air exchange going that once it stopped stinking I'd be done with it. It did, and I'm done...
My wife is very sensitve to those fumes also, when we were out looking at the new models she couldn't go in many of them.
You'd think the salesmen would open a few windows...
How can they expect to sell something when the customers are running for the door?

When my coach came in back in 04 there was a fume smell. If memory holds, it took 2 days of open windows to exhaust the smell. Has not been a problem since. Todays temps are 104 and both a/c's are running full blast. =)

All three of the units we have had have had the same fumes from the construction of the unit, glue, etc. What I have done each time is open all window's vents etc, run the heater for ab out 4-5 hours fairly high, then run the fan over night or all day next day and in 2 days I am done. I also leave the roof vent open when I am parked and not using the rig, I have vent covers over them. Thinking of adding another fantastic type fan in the toilet room, do they really help? We currently don't have any fantastic type fans ordered them but forgot to put them in, so I have no experience with them. How do they work with vent covers over them such as Maxx Airs which I have. Only have two vents now that I installed AC in one of them.

Broome101,
I have the MaxxAir cover made for FF on mine. My FF is located in the kitchen and does a great job of pulling moisture out when cooking or using the shower. I have been very happy with the FF in my coach. Here is a link for the FF vent cover.

Dave.. Will the FF still close when rain hits it. The Maxi cover PR says it afford excellent rain protection. I am a bit confused..I would like to have one if it does not interfere with ALL the FF functions. If the Maxi Cover provides rain protection then how could the FF rain function work.. Doe s you FF still close when it rains???

Rich,
In the 3 summers I have had the vents covered the answer to your question is no, the FF will not close because it is raining. The only "moisture" that closes the FF is when there is heavy "dew" in the air. With the MaxxAir covers there is no reason to close any of the vents when it's raining, the entire vent is covered. To date I have not had any rain come into the coach because of the vents being open. I found I have little to no moisture build up inside the coach when it rains, especially if I have FF running. Having the vent covers has allowed me to keep the vents open all the time and in my opinion allows any moisture to escape rain or shine.

You bring out several good points. I like to keep the FF running most of the time for several good reasons such as reduce moisture and provide air circulation. It seemed at times counter productive for the vents to close when it rained and we dare not turn off the rain function because rain would get in.. I am sure I already know your answer but are the Vents for the FF any higher than the regular vents. I remember you saying you height was 13.3 same as mine and my Maxi vent over the Kitchen is the highest point. If it adds no height to the camper I will be buying one..

Dave,

I remember reading on one of these threads that the FF folks recommended not using one of those Maxair covers. I've covered all my normal vents but left my FF uncovered because of this suggestion. I don't know if it's true or not but I guess it kind of makes sense, and the Maxair covers for them are pretty darned pricey too.

Mac,
Your right, they are not cheap but well worth the cost in my opinion. I am not sure what the correct answer is as far as to cover or not cover your FF, I will leave it up to personal choice. If I replaced the coach with another today, I would cover my FF again without a doubt.

Rich,
The top of my MaxxAir cover on my FF is the highest point of my coach. My FF is in the kitchen, not sure where yours is located, but 13'3" is my highest point. I can tell you I have gone under a bridge marked at 13'5" and cleared without any trouble, although from the drivers seat it looked close!!!! I am not trying to tell you what you should do, I just wanted to offer my experience with the cover. You are welcome to come and check it out at the rally next month.

My trailer isn't as high as you folks with the 5'ers, but I put vent covers on all three of my vents. I don't want to have to worry about rain while I'm off and about. I have noticed a slight reduction in air flow, but not having to worry makes it worth it for us.

Yes, we have done the same. We learned this with our previous 5ers. It really helps with moisture in the unit as well.

We have the vent cover built specifically for high volume fans. I have tried the FF with the cover on and with the cover off. We can tell no difference in airflow although. There may be some but we can't tell it.

We use the covers for the same reason as everyone else - so we can keep vents open even in the rain. If you get the dark covers it also mutes sunlight through the vent. Ours are the lighter ones, however.

See another Montana or Mountaineer on the road? Flash lights twice, it might be one of us!

I made a mistake meant to say the Highest point is the Mixi vent over the BATHROOM my FF is also over the kitchen. I can understand FF rational for saying not to use the Standard Maxi cover as it would be to short and interfere with the FF. I like the idea of being able to keep the FF open yet not lose any of its functions..We will cehck it out at the Rally...thanks.. There is so much you can learn on this forum..

We have a Maxivent cover on our FF. Works great! We use it a lot as a "whole house" exhaust fan. At night we close all the windows except those by our bed. We get a very nice refreshing breeze that way.

Glenn, this is what we have covering our FF.

http://www.campingworld.com/browse/s...13655&src=SRQB

I don't think the FF lid opens all the way but opens plenty far enough.

I also have the same cover as pictured in Steve's post. Thanks for the picture Steve, I am sure that will help explain how the MaxxAir cover works for the FF. =)

Yup - same one I have too, but only for the power vent - the other covers are smaller.

Does that cover work if you have the rain sensor?
