Dish VIP-722 Receiver goodie

Well, I have been a DISH user for several years now. I have taken the VIP-722 on trips with us in the Monty and now the SOB. As I was setting up the other day I noticed a check box titled "Off-Air."

Hmmm! I said. I checked the box and I filed it away for a later day. Today was that day.

I went into the system menu and clicked on local channels. Now mind you I did a little reading (SWAG) on the subject. We have the local channels with the batwing and our other channels with the satellite system.

On the back of the Satellite receiver there is an antenna input for a regular antenna. I had already plugged into that with the off-air (batwing) antenna. I told the system in the Local Channels system menu to perform a scan. It went through the channels and found 24. So okay, now what. I pressed the satellite guide and it gave me all the off-air channels in another color - both digital and SD.

What's the purpose? I don't have to push 3 buttons to switch antenna's, just press the guide button and select a channel.

Here's a kicker. You can record the off-air channels on the DVR.

Enjoy.

Check your satellite receiver to see if it has an antenna input and may be capable of off-air signals.

I notice that if I keep something long enough, I might know some of what there is to know about that thing! However, when it comes to many electronic things, I find it much easier to ask one of the grandchildren to "fix it."
