Moved gas line

I wanted to install scissor jacks and add another storage tube under the trailer but the factory installed gas line ran under the frame and was in the way. I removed the gas line and modified it so it could be reinstalled on the side of the frame. I removed the front vertical section of the original pipe and replaced it with the rear section of the original pipe. Then I removed one of the two front 90 degree ells and replaced it with a street ell. I then added a street ell where the rear vertical pipe used to be and reinstalled the assembly. New material used-- two street ells. Old material discarded-- long vertical pipe, 90 degree ell and 2 inch nipple. Then I was able to install the jacks. While I was removing the gas line assembly, I found the copper line to the refrigerator was pressed up against the edge of the bracket holding the sewer pipe. This would have worn a hole in the copper, eventually.

Is it legal to use Street Elbows on gas lines. I know they where not allowed on air lines on the truck I use to work on. I thought you had to use schedule 80 pipe.

Nice job Jim. I wish I could do that to ours but ours is an 08 and has no drop frame. That would mean putting the pipe inside the side skirting and I won't do that. But I will keep it in mind until we get a 2012 provided the house sells LOL... Dave

The street elbows are black pipe fittings as are the regular elbows. The pipe wasn't changed. The gas lines transition to soft copper and rubber hoses when they branch off to the appliances. I'm pretty sure the air lines on trucks hold a great deal more pressure than the propane lines in the trailers. All joints were soap tested for leaks.

When I installed two 4" PVC pipes under our rig, I cut a slot in each one so that the gas line lays in the slot. It cuts down on the ability to slide a sewer hose past the gas line, but it's clear on the other side of the coach anyway and the sewer hoses still go in nicely.

I sure hope they are approved gas lines!! I would have a real concern about the vibrations cracking the copper and leaking propane.

They are approved lines installed at the factory. I didn't replace those. I only altered the black pipe.

I was under mine the other day looking at the gas lines (for that gas line addition we talked about), and I gotta tell ya I came away scratching my head wondering why they do some of the things they do.

Dont understand why Keystone runs them under the frame like that in the first place, what were they thinking?

During the factory tour at the rally, I asked them about it. I was told it was a liability issue. I don't necessarily believe them. They also told me that by code, they couldn't put LT tires on the trailers. We went outside and there were G614's on a Big Sky.
