Yes, it is an ordinary door spring.

My Dealer called me today concerning this issue. I've had one slide cable carrier repaired on our our late 2006 3400RL and another that is cracked but still not repaired. I asked the dealer to find out what Keystone/Lippert was going to do about this widespread problem. He told me he had talked to Denny at Keystone and was told that they didn't know about the problem or that there even was one. I find that impossible to believe. Denny was going to check this forum to find out what was going on. Incredible!

Dean A Van Peursem,
You should have told your dealer to have Keystone read the MOC forum. As we all know its been a problem for several years. We still purchased our 3400RL and have not had any problems, yet. But when we do I will more than likely fix it myself as other have done.

Fire5er,
That is the very reason Denny is checking this forum. I suggested it. The problem with fixing these factory defects ourselves is the factory will never have to live up to their obligations. The dealers are begging for us to get these problems exposed to Keystone. They are getting very tired of being Keystones repair facility for so many QC issues. I see no reason why we should allow Keystone to deny this problem from being fixed under warranty when it is a widespread problem. Keystone and Lippert have to have their feet held to the fire or we will never see quality improve. I hope all readers understand how important this is.

I think there are two fixes for this problem.
1. If you don't live in your Montana full time, take it to a dealer and wait two weeks for them to get parts and authorization from Keystone to fix it. Then, when the plastic parts break again, take it back and start all over.
2. If you are a fulltimer, go to local hardware store, buy 2-3 (depending on make of Montana) 4 1/2 inch galanized or primed heavy duty door hinges, 8 1/4inch bolts with nuts and lock washers, spend about 20 minutes installing hinges (ea) and not worry about it anymore.
Sometimes a guys gotta do what a guys gotta do.

Our Big Sky has hinges on either end of the ribbon, granted they are plastic with a metal pivot rod but at least they seem to be trying to get it right... Dave and Betsy P.S. Granted it is only two weeks out to the factory. P.S.S On further examination there is only one hinge point on eack slide and that is a metal rod near the frame. The other end is still a plastic fold hinge

Keystone and Lippert or ANY of the vendors NEED to be made aware of problems with their product. When we correct them on our own and DO NOT report the issue we are doing all of us a disservice. No WE do not need to worry about it but everyone else does. If circumstances are such that we MUST correct the issue ourselves, large or small.... take the time and effort to report the problem to Keystone, Montana/vendor. Why was I not surprised that Lippert was not aware of the ribbon cable problem.. If we do not tell them...how would they know. We are part of the problem..

We bought a 2007 3500RL in July. Our friends bought one a year ago in Oct. His is cracked and he said to check mine. Sure enough the one on my kitchen slide had about a 2 inch crack in it.
