Galley Tank drain

We have a galley tank which is apparently separate from the black or grey tanks. We can't for the life of us figure out how to empty it. We feel like dummies but we have looked all over for anything that might look like a release and can't find it. This is urgent, because it is full and overflowing the sink.

Our galley tank valve is right in front of the left front wheel. You have to stoop down to see it.

That galley tank drain location and presence seems to be Montana's best kept secret.

You are right about that illapah

NOT even the dealers know about it. Or, they would point it out during PDI time???

Never fails to amaze me that something as basic as this is missed so many times by the dealers.

Seems that way...wonder why they don't put that little tid bit of information in the owner's manual?

With the tank drain between the wheels is certainly not the brightest idea. Hopefully you never blow out a tire. It would tear out the piping and who knows what else. Get rid of the Asian tires and get good ones and keep them in good condition.

The reason that this tidbit of info isn't in the Owner's Manual is that it is a "generic" Manual. Our rig, for example, doesn't have the valve handle between the wheels. Lots of other differences in location of things and, in some cases, how to operate them, exist between models.

Most of the individual system operating info is contained in the various Manuals you get with your rig...Furnace, Refrigerator, slides, awnings, etc.

Keystone should have different Manuals for different Models, but they don't...nor, from what I can find out, do other Mfg's. Too much effort for a limited production, relative to, for example, autos. No electrical diagrams or plumbing diagrams by Model, no detailed info on lots of things. Not good, but that is the away it is..

My post was an attempt at sarcasm...our manual, like all other RV manuals, is sorry at best, way too generic. We would not think of accepting a manual that poorly written for a $60k vehicle, but RV manufacturers continue get away with publishing junk. My 07 3400 has a manual published over two years ago. There was a long thread on this subject in the "Hey Keystone, What I'd Like To Say If..." section a while back. They are not listening or ignoring us. Some poor guy who had never had an RV before this one would be totally, 100% lost with this manual. Half the stuff in it does not apply to our rigs and half the stuff on our rigs is not in the manual. I give up.

We had the same problem. I even towed my Monty about 350 miles back to the dealer to get it "fixed"--I was called about 1 hour after dropping off that the tank needed draining and the handle was between the tires. I was not a happy camper!!!
I would suggest that the handle has flourscent tape on it so it would be noticed or a label like "galley"!!

I don't think I would want that handle too obvious to passersby, may be too much of a temptation.

Send a message via AIM to noneck
I moved mine...it was located just behind the rear tire and when the slide is out I thought it was not right to have to crawl under to get to handle. Therefore before my first trip I put a cable version gate valve and located the handle at rear most point so I can operate it w/o crawling.

Funny story (well funny now) when we picked up our unit the dealer rep doing the walk-through with us didn't know where all 3 of the dump valves were located. We finally found all of them after going through just about every "expert" in the service department. We will never forget where they are now. I imagine the location varies between models though.

Yes, it varies by model. Ours are between the tires but it's accessible without crawling under a slide. Our 3295RK had it behind the slide. Our 2880RL had it between wheels but it required crawling under a slide.

Some folks use the awning rod to avoid crawling under a slide. I like noneck's idea of moving the handle, though.

Just a word of caution when using the awing rod to pull gate valve.Be sure to pull straight back not at an angle. You can break the pull rod away from the plastic valve. It is a real adventure to replace. This happened to me when a camp ground dumped our Jyco. With the under belly on the Montana would be more difficult

My galley drain valve unscrewed itself driving down the road. I went to drain the galley and the handle was laying way down. I gently pulled it and it came out of never never land and right on out! I gently probed and twisted and after 5 or 6 minutes I happened to get the handle extension screwed back on the valve. I check all three drains righty tighty every dump to make sure they don't do the same.

Yea..there is method behind the madness.. Having a Manuel that tells you nothing causes you to search out all the things it does not mention so that you know exactly were they are.You would never have found them other wise????

This board's awsome.... Mine was registering full and I didn't even know what it was. It's between the wheels on my 2955rl and requires crawling under the slide.

So, I'm wondering what the point of this is? Am I to assume that my 76 gallons of gray water is split between the galley and the other gray tank? If so, that's not really how I'd choose to set it up. I must be missing something that's cool about this....

Thanks again everyone!!
