Eielson AFB, Alaska

We are staying at the Fam Camp on the base about 30 miles south of Fairbanks. It is in a very nice setting among the trees and by a small lake. Gas is 20 cents cheaper than outside the base. Someone told us that other campgrounds are $10.00 more. Wireless is available on the base. And the campground is only about half full. It's a nice stopover for visiting Fairbanks.

Hello Judy and Glen,
Looks like you guys are having a GREAT TIME. I went to your blog spot and have a question. Alaska, a dream of mine. I saw a picture stating the day you left home on your trip was July 15th. How many miles are you guys doing a day?
Thanks
Karl

Oops, don't know what I said to mislead you, Karl. We left our home in Alabama on June 10th and visited family until July 1, when we left northeast Nebraska to drive to Alaska. We've spent time at Yellowstone, Glacier, Banff, and then overnites for a day or two enroute to Alaska. We can have short days (150 miles) and long days (350-400 miles). The long days are exhausting but sometimes there's not much to stop and see (between Watson Lake and Tok). So we just kept driving. Hope this clears up our itinerary.

We are moving right along, Karl, but things have started to slow down as we get more into the high interest areas. We'll be here at Denali for four nights after five nights at Eielson, Then we'll go to Anchorage for 2 or 3 nights to get our water tank fixed (we hope). Our first reservation in Alaska is at Quart Creek, a COE camp on the Russian River, I think. Then we'll go to Seward Resort for six nights and hope to do some deep sea fishing and take in a cruise to see whales and glaciers. After picking up my brother and his wife in Anchorage, we'll be heading for Homer to camp on the coast. Longer stays ahead.
