water heater outside vent

I have 2007 3400rl on my water heater outside vent I have brown stain
like soot that come from the hot vent. What can I do.

Dont it is most likely trash. clean out the burner tube and around the orfice. could be just a spider web if it just started smoking. it is burning rich altitude will cause this sometimes. a friend of mine it the mountains had to have his reajusted. just something to ck.

I just sanded it and repainted it but next time I'll try to find high temp white paint if they sell it? I've only been able to find black so far mine has held up for two years. Good luck Jack
