clear/transparent propane tanks

Sometime in the last 6 months or so there was a thread about some new propane tanks that are clear or transparent. They didn't have the 30# ones yet but were supposed to about the first of the year.

I didn't save the name of the manufacturer and would like to see if they are available yet. Tried the search feature but with no results.

Does any one remember who the manufacture was?

What is the certification date on these? Is it the same as the steel tanks?

I really like these and ragasco has a 31 lb one. Sounds good since I wanted to change mine to two 40lbs and they were like 125$ each empty.

One of the MOCr's at the Fall Rally had them for sale at the Fall Rally. Maybe he will check in on this thread and help you out!

What I want to know is are all propane dealers going to refill these things? The place I go near my storage spot is a generic convenience store. Are they going to turn me away? How about when I'm off in the boonies somewhere? Dealers not familiar with them might just have grave misgivings about putting gas in, certified or not.

Bobby,
40# empty steel propane cylinders (DOT approved) are $80 at Lowes.

If you read the details on the Litecylinder site, those tanks have to be re-certified every 5 years and only have a 15 year life span. And I agree, not sure if every place would refill them, especially when their web site list specific refilling places.

I brought the 20 lbs. cylinders to the rally. I have contacted my distributor to see if he can get some 30 and/or 40's at a good price, if so, I will post it on this site. As far as filling them, I have had no problem and they sometimes don't even get a second look which kinda surprised me.

When the 30#s come out I'd really like to get a couple. The ones I have now will either have to be re-certified in a couple of years so it would be a good time to go with the newer ones. Sure would be easier to keep track of how much fuel is on board. Thanks, Dennis

While I still rely on the inside remote indicator to flash when a tank runs out, I'd still like to have the see throughs.

Anyone know whether a 40 lb tank will fit ok in our propane compartments? They're not too tall?
