tub drain ---YUCK

This is an icky post...sorry in advance
I was having a problem with the garden tub draining well, so I got out a flashlight and started investigating...all I can say is how totally GROSS! What I pulled out of there with tweezers looked like a dead mouse! I almost lost my breakfast, and I AM A NURSE! It takes a lot to really gross me out.
Is there a drain basket, or strainer, for RV plumbing (or something) that I can put in there to catch the hair so I won't have this problem again? It couldn't possibly be good for the tank. What do others do to avoid this? Steve isn't here to take care of it, so I am on my own...
Any help is appreciated...

It's bad Tara. I think everyone goes through this problem. We've dealt with it for over seven years of full timing now, but really, it isn't that bad--just yucky!

Well, in a stick house with metal drains, pouring bleach in will dissolve the mess. I have heard that it is not advisable to put bleach into a holding tank, so my question would be: Is there an alternative to bleach that would break up the mess?

As bad as it is I think the tweezers is probably the best. Any harsh chemicals can NOT be good for the tank[s]. This is not what you wanted to here but it is just my opinion

Yup...been there too...use those plastic strainers just like you use at home to keep hair out of the drain. Kind of a pain, but you either clean it off from that strainer, or fish it out from the drain.
Of course you might start a fight arguing over just who's hair it is anyways...not that I'd know anything about that one...

On my Montana the shower drain trap is readily accessible in the storage compartment and consisting of the usual plastic components, just screws apart. I won't share my tale of what led to this discovery, but thankfully it was fortuitous and I also realized could just dump/drain versus "winterizing" with pink stuff. You could always remove and push any clog down the now open pipe. Don't forget a bucket!

Ozz has it again. Use the rubber hair catchers. They work great. We have them in all our bathrooms at home and in our Monty. We need them, my wife is Italian and SHE isn't going to read this!! On a side note. Bleach will not get rid of the hair in the drain and chemicals like Liquid Plummer work on grease but have a tendency to just melt the hair together into one solid mess. Now you still have to take the drain apart and deal with the chemicals you put in the pipes. This is all done in-home (actually work, some plumbing on the side). I don't think you want any of these chemicals in a trailer. They do make air gun type gunk removers but again, how much air pressure can our trailer plumbing take?

Sorry Ozzie. You should have the credit. I didn't take the time to check the post. Just used my memory which as you see is failing.

Thanks Tim...certainly not worried about any credit, but thank you anyway. Ozz and Ozzie...gee, how could someone miss that?
I just wish I was the one down in the sunny gulf instead of sub zero temps...

38 days before I get to leave for Texas. I have to stay up here long enough for the Packers to win the Super Bowl. Or at least get there. What are the Vikings doing this weekend?

We found that the stainless steel, woven baskets work extremely well to trap all of the "gook" before it gets lodged somewhere in the drain. They come in at least 3 different sizes and they are available at Lowe's. We use one in each drain - kitchen, lavatory and shower.
