Trail Ridge Road, Colorado
I have been over this route many times in autos, but never with an RV. If you have pulled your Montana over Trail Ridge Road from Grand Lake to Estes Park, I would appreciate your comments and/or advice

Unfortunately you can not pull your RV over Trail Ridge - they have a length limit that restricts it because of the hairpin turns and narrow road. I believe it is 35' total vehicle length, but I can't remember. It's posted at the base of the pass.
We always leave our Montana in a campground in Leadville and take the pickup over to the western side for the day.

Well slap me around,
Sorry David and Shirley, Dory just reminded me that it was Independance Pass between Leadville and Aspen that restricts us. I don't think there are any restrictions on Trail Ridge - other than it will close in the winter after they surrender with the snowplows. They keep it open as long as they can - depending on how much snow they get.

Thanks, Brad, I am well aware of the limitations on the road into Aspen over Independence Pass. Several places the entire highway just narrows down to one lane around some very sharp curves.
Right now I am considering taking the route through Central City, Nederland, Allens Park and Meeker Park. Even about that I have some concerns, but I think it will be ok. We have been over all these roads in the past but never with an RV.

Sorry about the confusion David and Shirley,
Now that I have my bearings straight, I have not been over trail ridge with the Montana. I have with a Class A (to Grand Lake) and I remember it was a steep pull and somewhat narrow, but not unreasonable. You might call the Park Rangers to get up to date info on the weather, as they control the park's access. Nothing turns my knuckles whiter than a surprise weather front that drops a little fresh snow and ice on the upper passes.
Highway 119 to Central City is practically a super highway now, to provide improved access to the gambling up there.
Have fun and enjoy the scenery! We were just thinking of something up north to see the leaves turn as a season end trip.

So Sad I know Mac - I just went up to Saratoga WY over the holiday and thought I would have a chance to play with the AC a little more. Not a chance - it dropped to 40 Degrees at night!

We were up by Victor and Cripple Creek, it was 35 Monday morning, heavy frost both Saturday and Sunday nights.

Are the leaves turning yet!
Have you ever stayed in Cripple Creek itself? We love going down there but I end up in Meuller State Park by Victor. Never tried to find anything further south.
In fact - its time before the leaves fall off.

Just barely started to turn, a few here and there, another week or two of that weather and it will be golden. We have stayed above Cripple Creek but normally just stay at that KOA which is the highest in the nation at about 10,500 feet. I went into town and ended up winning more than enough to pay for the weekend and put tires on my wifes car too!

I'm sure I left a little up there for you! I really do enjoy going there a couple times a year, usually Memorial and Labor day.

Padre: You might try this # for specific info questions about vehicle length. Certain areas of the park do not allow trailers at all. Nothing specific on their website about Trail Ridge in particular. Also, when are you going? Typically they close the road about mid-October for the season due to snow. Also, I think the highway into Central City Brad is referring to is the "Central City parkway", not Hwy. 119, as it runs adjacent to 119 and was built with private funds. Not sure if it has a # yet? Good luck!
