Reno or Bust

I have been hard at work planning our next vacation. We were thinking of heading south and eventually into Reno/Sparks for a couple nights. I have recently talked to two people who told me to stay away as it is very run down and not the same as years past. Both reported being very disappointed and it has been 2 years or less (visit). We have not been there for at least 10 years other than driving through.

I am looking for anyone who has recently stayed in, stopped there etc. Comments on whether it is worth the 12 hour trek. As always thanks in advance for replying.

Don't know about the city itself, but right now I-80 through Reno is a mess with construction. We just came through there last week. Very nice campground in Verdi near the state line and also one in Boomtown behind the casino.

We just went thru there this morning. There is some construction but it was not bad. We stayed at an RV park in Sparks. Very, Very nice park. Sparks Marina RV park. We only used it as a stop over on our way to the Oregon Coast.

Thanks for the info. We too are planning on staying at the Sparks Marina RV Park. I have heard very good reviews from friends.

We were just there in April visiting my BIL and they had just recently retired to Spark. We toured the town and there is a lot of construction around the streets around the downtown Casinos. But there are several other casinos outside of the downtown area to peruse. It was about 20 years before since we were there and the place has grown and I couldn't help but notice the number of casinos had risen. On the other hand curiosity is that a few casinos in or near downtown have closed their doors allegedly because of the economy but I'm not so sure that was the reason (they look dated and very small).

When we were there, there was construction on both route 395 (north/south) and I-80 (east/west), but there's plenty of other things to do and I heard from others there are a few RV parks in the area but I didn't check their condition. While it would not be a first choice for place to visit because of all the construction areas, I could make it a brief stop over for a few days. We'll be going there again and hope things improve over time since the BIL is gonna be there a while.

We made reservations at Silver Sage RV park across from the Peppermill on South Virginia Street. We would have gone to the Sparks Marina, nicer park, but our 17 year old Lab is not welcome there.

O.K. Michael what is the problem with a lab? Their web site says there are pet restrictions but there are no specifics. Is this another one of those "no dogs over 20 lbs." places???
