Boy, after reading that website's information, methinks I may go Dodge! I would've bought a Dodge in '95 if they could have gotten me one (I have a son who works for Daimler-Chrysler in Detroit). However, they couldn't provide one in time for me. That's the primary reason I'm driving a Ford right now. There goes that male EGO thing again.

Well, I like the Fords and have driven nearly everything on the market, having owned something more than 65 vehicles in my time, mostly GM. But my personal opinion is all three diesels are very capable. Therefore, you can be comfortable that you can make your selection based on other preferences, knowing the diesel will do the job.
Grussell, go drive the new (2005 and 2006) Fords in the 4x4 version. I think the steering and the ride of that new frontend and frame might just change your mind.

We got the Duramax/Allison mostly because of the Allison transmission, although I've been a Chevy guy all my driving life. Now that they've souped-up the Duramax even more and pushed the Allison to 6-speeds, I'd love to get the new one, but Shari says "Fugedaboutit!" Oh well . . .

Does anyone have the new Dodge Mega cab? Wondered how it would pull with that short box. The cabs are huge inside I guess.

They are all good trucks .I don't care what kind of truck we have or what kind of Motor. We buy what will serve us best...whatever that might be...Sit down and think about what you will use this truck for. how you will tow, what you will tow,how long will you keep it, how will you drive it (TV only, everyday ride, Etc) how many miles a year will you put on it..I think that if you think about all these things the truck will jump out at you.

I have been a Ford man forever for their toughness over the years of using them for work trucks and they were the only one that would hold up under the abuse they were subjected to.I do believe that Ford was way ahead for several years in their tow trucks but both GM and Dodge have made big strides the last couple of years and Ford did kind of blow it when they switched from the 7.3 to the 6.0 but maybe they are about to get things lined out.
I personally still have a 2003 F350 7.3 power stroke ford that I am would not part with.

I'll stay with Ford, I've had Chevy and they were not as reliable as Ford.

Well as a Ford owner you would think I was gun ho about it but am Not. I had a lot of things go wrong with my truck when new, BUT they were fixed but the inconvience was the killer. Im sure that lots or some have had some kind a problem with there make and model be it GM, GMC, Dodge, Toyota you name it. all I can say is take a long test drive on each model then go with your gut, and live with your dicision.

Hi Guys
Thought I would enter the good, better, best discussion. I have a 2005 Silverado 2500 HD Dura-Max. I have pulled my Montana 5000 miles and in a lot of mountains. I love the Dura-Max power and love the Allison trans. I think it is worth the extra 2-3 grand if you are pulling alot.

OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! HONEY SELL THE FORD, QUICK!
Mine has been problem free (knock on wood) for 24,000 miles. Oh well, I guess if I wouldn't buy anything that wasn't liked by everyone I would own nothing.
Was that convoluted enough?

I sure do hope so.
I was talking to Momma about the big, new, shiny, 2006, GMC 3500's with more torque and horse power and six speed tran.
She said "Why do we need a bigger truck?"
I said "Because bigger's better."
She just shook her head and walked away. Women just don't understand these things.

We have to be very careful here not to degrade into brand wars. So far this thread has not gone to that depth. I've owned just about every American brand made and several foreign brands as well. I've owned over 65 vehicles in my life, quite a few of them new.
I have talked with a lot of owners. I've heard bad things about all of them. I've talked with owners who swear they've never had a single problem. Some, that's true. Others, it's just not wanting to admit to problems.
Right now, every single magazine I've seen, online and hardcopy, say the Ford out tows everything else by a wide margin. Solo, too. When the 650 Duramax comes out, that may change. The Cummins has proven longevity. The Duramax and 6.0 Powerstroke are too new to make the same claim even though both have several instances of 600k plus miles on some of them. Both had problems when new. Big problems. Both GM and Ford bought some back.
The bottom line in my opinion and in all those magazine tests is that all three brands can do a very credible job of towing weights in the range of our Montanas. I personally would not hesitate to tow a Montana with any of them. I'd highly recommend you recognize that fact and make your purchase decision based on your other personal needs and wants, inlcuding brand preferences. It's very hard to go wrong these days.
Someone posted a sour grapes article about Fords. I could do a little research and show you similar articles about Dodge and GM. Just like in this forum we talk mostly about problems. But it's a very small percentage. I love my Ford and would put it up against any other bone stock truck out there. But the GM and Dodge guys would say the same thing. And rightfully so.
Good luck. You have a lot of good choices.

Steve - Good advice and comments. This post was going in the wrong direction and hopefully it takes a more positive turn. As you said anyone can make a case against any brand....just like our much-loved Montana's.
Whatever you drive I wish you the best and hope you have may miles of pleasure pulling your Montana!
