Central Tennessee Area
We will be traveling down through Tennessee (towards the Florida panhandle - yayyyy!!) next Friday night and plan on a stay over somewhere hopefully between Knoxville and Chattanooga on I-75. Found a couple of overpriced KOA's but was wondering if anyone is familiar enough to recommend a campground for a late-arrival, early departure need. Easy access in and out from the interstate is key since it will be dark when we arrive. Any suggestions from the MOC?? As part of joining the over-50 club, DOD (dear old dad) is getting a little wiser and would prefer to not tackle the 14-15 hour trek non-stop, we will save that for the return trip.
Bingo
As a fallback, we are looking at the Sweetwater KOA??

Bingo,
I stayed at Volunteer Park, it is about 12 miles north of Knoxville on I75 at exit 117. Phone: 865-938-6600. Heiskell, Tennessee. Street Address: 9514 Diggs Gap Rd, Heiskell, TN, 37754
I know others have stayed at Raccoon Mtn Caverns which is about 5 miles from I 24 at mile marker 174 which is on the south side of Chattanooga. Phone: 423-821-2283. Chattanooga, Tennessee. Street Address: 319 W Hills Rd, Chattanooga, TN, 37419
On a quick search I only found one west on I40 about 13 miles from the I 75 and I 40 split.
Good luck and safe travels.

We are currently in Holiday Travel Park in Chattanooga. I-75 Exit #1. Easy in/out and decent park. Pull thrus, FHU. Good Sam park. Right on TN/GA state line.

Thanks for the good info, but I don't think I can make it to Chattanooga at any decent hour. Heiskell is an option but might be a little too close since it would leave a 12 hour or so jaunt for Saturday? Looking at leaving the Charleston area on WV at around 4-5 in the evening. Chattanooga looks to be more than seven hours away if not eight (this is based on previous travels with four females (DW, two daughters and another female guest). I am sure you understand (a ten minute pit stop takes thirty minutes at a minimum)!! LOL!! Midway between Knoxville and Chattanooga seems to be the ideal location since I believe I could be there around 10-11 and that would leave about 9-10 hours for the Saturday leg. Receptive to additional experiences and advice on the area from MOCers.

Fed your problem into an app I have. This option is a little further south than your KOA. Have no idea if it's any good. I found this place with the AllStays Camp & RV app:
- Independent
Tennessee Country Campground and RV Park
520 Hwy 309
Niota, Tennessee 37826
Phone: 1-423-568-2939
You can see the location of this camp here:

My current GPS location is here:

Bingo, I sent a message to the rangers at Topsail warning them you would be on your way so they can get some extra people in there to help out.
By the way - enjoy - wish I was there to help clean up after you.

Oh man Bingo......over 50 club? You opened a can of worms there guy lol. Last Tuesday morning we left Gulf Shores AL drove straight thru to Lansing Mi area, visited with family and a friend that was on his last days. After a very short stay, Sunday we left MI and drove straight thru to Gulf Shores. All together with travel in Mi, well over 3000 miles in just 5 days. And I am in the over 60 club. Don't get to old before your time young man!! LOL

So far it's been very handy. I don't remember if I bought it or it was free. If I spent money on it, I didn't spend much and it's been a help on several occasions so far.

That's the trouble with these kids, they get over 50 and think they are getting old. Go figure.

This new generation of kids just weren't made like our generation. A couple of years back I worked all day on the show floor in an archery industry booth and then drove from Colombus, Ohio to Savannah, Tennessee and finally laid down.
