A&E Weather Pro OR Carefree Travl'r Awning

Do to my recent required heart surgery, I am looking to replace my manual A&E awning on my 3400. I have been researching the A&E WeatherPro and the Carefree Travl'r or Elipse (I think).

Are there any testimonies to add guidance to my decision?

Our Cambridge has the weather pro. I'll never hav another. It is too flimsey and the electronics are unreliable. Even with your surgery I think you would be disappointed.

We added the Carefree Travlr power arms to our 3400 within a few months of bringing it home. The original awning was ackward to operate with the short arm and was too high for me to reach without getting a ladder.

We researched both A&E and Carefree. We found the Carefree power arms to be much sturdier than the A&E. The bonus was, the Carefree Travlr arms fit our existing A&E awning, so we were able to keep the roller and fabric making the install somewhat cheaper.

We have no history using it yet other than playing with it in the driveway. A couple of notes for you to consider:

If you go with Carefree - you have to get the Steep Pitch Travlr arms due to limited length on the front of the Monty for the arm (same as Kestone uses on the Big Sky). The Eclipse arms are too long to fit the front.

There are electrics (just in and out by the button), and automatics (retract by themselves when they sense wind or motion). I believe the biggest complaint of the automatics is they react too slow to have any confidence in.

Carefree Eclipse - Automatic
Carefree Travlr - Electric
A&E WeatherPro - Automatic
A&E PowerPro - Electric (exlusive to Camping World)

Keep in mind, these are not designed to set up, tie down, hang lights on, add screen rooms, and hope for the best in all weather. They are designed to extend when you want them in favorable conditions, and put away when you are not using them. If that's the use you are anticipating, I believe you will be happy. As part timers I believe it will suit us just dandy.

I replaced my awning arms with the travelr from carefree. I really like it. I can retract or extend any time I want from inside the fiver. I installed mine myself took about 4 hours.

bsmeaton,

Thanks this looks really nice!! If I wanted to add the wireless option and possibly a wind sensor, why not buy the Eclipse controller and wind sensor and wire to the Travlr arms?

How does the Travelr handle rain and run-off?

BW2,

It is my understanding that the Eclipse Controller is not available for the Travlr arms, but I'm not sure why. Carefree Customer Service may be able to answer that better, and they are nice folks to talk to.

We have retrofitted a remote onto ours. It gets a little complicated as the reverse polarity motor uses ground for a motor brake.

We actually haven't had our out in the rain yet - sorry.

The wind sensor needs limit switches to switch power off when awning retracts and extends, it could be done but it would be a lot of work and extra wire,
