Diamond Plate

I have a Mountaineer with the slide out rack/tray on the back. The plastic seems to hold water. Has anyone removed the plastic tray and replaced it with another material, maybe aluminum diamond plate? If so, how has this worked out for you?

Put the diamond plate on today. Total cost was less than $100 and it will work much better for my recumbent bikes than that stupid plastic tray. Also drilled 8 drain holes in the diamond plate so water won't collect like it did in the plastic. Two of the bolts were rusted so bad I almost didn't get them out. Replaced them with self threading stainless bolts. I ordered a couple of fork mounts for the recumbents that I will mount to the diamond plate. Hopefully it will work well. Anyone need a plastic tray for a Mountaineer, I have one for sale?
