3400 port side locker doors

The locker doors on the port side of our 3400 came with no provision to hold them open against the wind. That's the street side horizontally swinging doors to you landlubbers. Anyhow, being in the land of perpetual wind I kept getting swatted upon the backside by those doors.

This morning I corrected that situation. The left door will open to parallel with the rig so I used a standard chrome door holder, the little spring loaded one.

The other door has a bumper to keep it from getting under the slide where it might be destroyed if the slide was retracted with door open. It doesn't open to anywhere close to the side of the house. A short door holder like that used on the entry door worked just fine. I had to turn it 90 degrees from normal but it works great.

See another Montana or Mountaineer on the road? Flash lights twice, it might be one of us!

Steve,

Your rig may be different since it's newer but on my '05 the aft side of the basement door covers the furnace exhaust vent. I thought about putting a door catch on it but thought I'd forget and leave it open and melt the front of the door.

Gee, Steve, and I was so envious of you guys with the newer doors under the bedroom slide. I'm kinda glad they aren't perfect. I think we have part of our problem solved with the new catch (a bent one of the kind that holds the front door open). We saw another brand of 5er when we were in AZ that had the same dumb configuration as our 05 3400 has and he was calling it dumb also. Actually a few choicer words than that. (And yes, Dave, that is a word.)

Ken, mine also would cover the furnace vent except Keystone put a bumper in place to keep the door from opening that far. The latch I put on pulls the door up against that bumper but no further. I think in these pictures Ozz requested you'll see what I'm trying to describe.

left (forward) door:
