Thanks, Charlie. The dealer is going to have to come down on his price a good bit. We'll see.

Dave,
As you can see from my signature I have the same truck you're looking at except it is the crew cab. I have been very happy with this truck and would buy another. I did not want to be a guinea pig with the 6.0. Turns out the early 6.0s had problems so I did good!! I do not have weight specs on the truck. I pull a Mountaineer 335RLBS with a dry weight of 8900 lbs. I figure it is something over 10K loaded with our stuff. I get 11-12 towing and 17-18 solo around town and as much as 21 solo interstate. I love this truck and plan to drive it a long time. 61K is barely broken in so go for it if the price is right.

Dave.a little more homework on that truck,The average mileage for that year truck should be @ 49K so the miles are a little high..There are so many variables as to what the dealer took that truck in for on trade but Kelly Blue book says 17/18K trade in value and KBB is usually fairly accurate. If the market in your area is depressed like it is here he may have given less..hard to tell..But these are some numbers to work with.

A 7.3L 2003 would be an ideal upgrade for me. I really like the 7.3L.
I bought mine used with 54K and I have about 130k now. It weighs 5960 with driver, hitch, and one tank full so I have about 2800 to work with. Fully loaded with trailer I am about 8600 GVW so I am just under. Right now I have an ideal configuration. Since I have a 3:55 rear end which helps with mileage I am borderline for my GcW. I think my GCWR is about 16500. 5960 plus 10500. That is close.
Don't think you can get the 3:55 any more. 12-14 towing: Last three tanks for local driving was just over 20. avg 17-21. Don't know what the road value is since I usually have Monty for trips.
Always on the lookout for a good used 2003 7.3L. Prefer the crew cab.

dsprik,
Is it a Super Duty? Make sure it has all the heavy duty components for hauling and towing. Otherwise the 7.3 is a wonderful engine and will do all the pulling you could want.

HamRad, It is a Super Duty. I will probably get over there tomorrow witn the Blazer he wants to look at.
Rich, those are the figure that I came up with also. I believe this area is very depressed, so I am sure they are not giving that for trade-in either.

Yes, do make sure it has the tow package. Look at the door post sticker for the GVWR. The 7.3 is a solid engine. Hard to go wrong with that one although any engine not taken care of is suspect. The axle is most likely the 3.73, which is what all of our superduties have been. Also, if it happens to have a rear spring leaf that looks like it is reversed from the others (curves up on the ends, like a smile), then it has the Camper Package with the extra leaf (it's an overload leaf). That's one thing I wish I had got on mine.
If I recall, the 3400 has the lightest pinweight of all Montanas. That will help a lot on the GVWR/payload.

I did look at the back springs, Steve. I don't recall one looking like it was reversed. It did look like it had extra leaves, though.
