Durango Radial Tires
I am buying new tires for my 2005 GMC 2500HD Duramax Diesel and would like you opinion on this new DURANGO RADIAL XTR tires. I am
also moving up to 265/75R/16 from 245/75R/16.
Do you see any problems doing this? I would appreciate your advice.
Large, beefy tread elements
Designed for off-road application while providing long, even wear in highway applications.
Deep tread and scalloped shoulder design
Maximize traction on soft surfaces.
Beveled treadblock edges
Fight irregular wear and improve self-cleaning capabilities.
Pinned for studs
Self-cleaning tread features holes for metal studs.

Sounds like a rather aggresive tread, but maybe that is what you want or need. I try to stick to a highway type tire for longer wear and less road noise. Similarly, do you need M+S?
If you go off road, or drive in snowy weather, then this may well be the tire for you, otherwise, I would look for something else more suited to your driving needs.

I agree, sounds like an overly aggressive tread, and may be noisy on the road.

jpete;
There has been a recall on that particular tire (along with several others made by Cooper Tire).
Just make sure the tires you buy aren't in the recalled batch.
Here's the link to the recall article;

Thanks for your help. I take your comments as a caution and don'think I will take any risk, especially concerning the "aggressive tread and road noise issue. Thanks again guys.

John,
If you have a Les Schwabs tire center in your area, take a look at the Toyo Open Country A/T. This is a 50,000 mile tire with very good traction for winter and rainy driving, also a very quiet tire on the road. Toyo also has the Open Country H/T which is a tire made for highway use, not really an off road or winter tire. I run the A/T tires on my truck now, have 16,000 miles on them since October. Have been very happy with how they are wearing and how they handled the winter driving up here in the Northwest.
