Cows As Compass
For those who do not have GPS, scientists have come up with a way that you can tell what direction you are traveling in and you don't need a compass.
COWS!
They align themselves North or South when grazing or resting. So if your NEW car does not have a compass, watch the cows.
Of course, you will need to know if you are heading East or West, and most likely if you are that lost you will need to keep the cows in sight. Just remember that if you are heading West and you want to go South, it a left hand turn, or else it's a long way around the beltway. If heading East or West you SHOULD be able to tell if the cows are pointing North or South, unless you are really lost.

You can also tell the forecast.
In Penna Dutch Country if the cows are laying down it's going to rain. If they are standing it's going to be a nice day.
I once saw half the herd laying down and the other half standing. The farmer said it was going to be partly sunny. Guess what? We had a great round of golf on a partly sunny day.
Coinsidence? Maybe but you will never convince a Penna Dutchman it was.

Ole Dude,
Are you admitting you got dumb cows?
Growing up we always looked at the cows for weather prediction when walking to the swimming hole.
Now-a-days, if half are laying down, and half are standing, I'd say there was a 50/50 chance of sun, or rain.
Works for me.

Send those scientists behind my house and tell the cows they are not eating right.

And when the cows are laying down, the fish aren't biting either!

Snipe hunting used to be one of my favorites, zig zag over the top of the sawgrass, hard to shoot.

Mike,
Shoot? You obviously have never been snipe hunting. You don't shoot them you catch them in a gunny sack! Come on.... everyone knows that!

Ok I'll bite......
Which way is the Cow's head going? North or South?
You know when ever we head to Bodega Bay and pass the many, many, many, cow pastures....the cows are always heading in the same direction.
I always thought they were heading out to the pasture for their daily walk and feeding, then in the evening heading back to home base.
I don't know....next time I'll look at the car compass and see if it matches. Who know's!

I think cows are lousy for navigation....Just last week I was looking for the meat market in Clinton and stopped to ask the cows for directions and they wouldn't answer me. Won't ask them again.......

Cows are very unfriendly. I have blown my horn at them to be friendly and they have never blown back, even though they had horns. g

That's because you didn't have a MOO horn!
As for direction, I certainly know which "end" is South!!
Geesh!

I tried to ask cows for directions to see it they would talk to me, they were real helpful or so I thought. The directions took me right to a KFC.

That was good Rick!
For correct MOO directions, you have to have a magnetic sign on the door that says:
"Eat More Chicken!"

Maybe the problem is that you're asking them on the wrong days. I think they help only on Sunday.
Haven't you heard "Holy Cow" before? Where do you think that came from?

I don't know if you want to ask these cows for directions, they tend to graze in any direction that soots their fancy.
