Permanent Window Mount

I use a window mount suction cup for my Nuvi and just leave it there with a wired in charger. I carry a second mount for rental cars, etc.

Had a windshield put in yesterday and that mount had bonded itself permanently to the glass! It left a ring of rubber and destroyed the mount. Nothing temporary about that mounting after being stuck to the windshield for about a year!

Oh well

Brad -
A good friend is a police officer in the Chicago area. The GPS is the new hot break in temptation for robbers. As soon as they see a GPS mount, they break in whether the GPS is there or not. They assume its in the glove box or console. I use the Garmin Bean Bag mount, for several reasons. First, if I need DW to search a location, I just hand it over. I can position it wherever it's best for viewing - I switch it between our three vehicles. And, when I leave the car, I just place the mount and everything under the seat. And, no little rings on the windshield. Just a suggestion.

Waynem - Nice link - thanks. I still kind of like it high.

Rames14 - I wondered about that. I also watched on the news the other day that the truck itself is one of the top targets for theft and reutilization as a illegal contractor snow plow. The odds are against me . Fortunately the truck doesn't get out much, and when it does it's usually on a secured government site or in a campground.

Brad...I do the same thing...mount it right above my mirror. It's in the heavy tint area and you'd have to look really hard to see it from outside. I stuck the hard disk on the window first with the intention of just leaving it for good...LOL

BTW...Target here has those Garmin windshield mounts for 12 bucks. I picked one up to use on rental cars during our Florida vacation in a few weeks. I do have the bean bag, but that windshield mount is cleaner.

Hey thanks Ozzie - I was thinking I would have to order the cup from Garmin. I'll check out Target.

Well dang! I dropped the Nuvi this afternoon and broke it anyway. Screen is nothing but colored bars . Gonna miss that gal.

Hope the new 650 has the same sweet Aussie voice.

Oh no!! I fear that very thing...I feal your pain Brad.

Well - the 650 has been going for 300 bucks at Costco. It's been a reoccurring sale as they keep finding more stock - I suppose until they run out completely. You have to go up to the 750 (?) to get the model with the built in fm broadcast. I've seen those for 350 online somewhere.

For me personally - if I was to be in need, I would bypass the 650 and go to the 750 or 760. They have the fm transmitter. No wires hanging around sounds very appealing to me and worth another 50 bucks.
I use the player function on the road.
I'm almost positive I tracked one down for 340 - try this link

Ozzie,

You're right. I thought the 650 had the transmitter, but its the 660 (my boss has it). Time for research.

I was looking for the 760, I like the darker color...but it's still close to 400 bucks for that one. The 750 is a nice unit, and no flip up antenna either. I don't know how well that works.

If the antenna doesn't flip up, I wonder if nav is on all the time? I always liked listening to books without the nav on because the battery lasted 10 times longer.

Thanks for the link - too cool. I print what I want and go to West Marine and they will match the price and I carry home.

so many decisions! As my little daughter says "Choooooooose wiiiiisely"

You're welcome bud...I guess you benefitted by my looking...can you tell I've been watching them? LOL
Good point about that antenna. I'd like to find out about that before I tried to take it on an airplane.

I haven't gotten that far yet, I think those are higher priced and I'm not convinced the features are worth it at this point.
Now I'm gonna have to go look...but, I'm spending YOUR money now...not mine...hehe
