replacement tires
I have been talking to the local tire guy (small town) about replacing my tires. What he came up with is .....
KENDA LT A/P (KR05) QR
LT 235/85R16 LR-G. 3750 @ 110 psi.
It's a G rated LT tire. He's willing to take the Marathons in on trade (2000 miles or so) for about $50 each. I'll keep the one Marathon as a spare. For $550 out the door I'm really thinking about doing it.
Any reasons I should not go for this deal? Anthing I should be aware of?
Thanks.......

who makes them? have you done a search on these to see if anyone is having issues? Quality gives you some peace when towing,so make sure that is what these are.

Hmmmmmmm????? The LT tire with the 3750 lb rating sounds great and it appears to be made in the USA Reynoldsville Oh. Buuuuutttt over on RV.net no one has anything nice to say about that brand. It appears the LT's came stock on Cardinal 5er's so I went to their forum, again nothing nice to say. It appears Kenda makes the Karrier TT tires which come on several TT's. On most of the case of exploding tires and mangled trailers it appears Kenda did foot the bill for replacements and repairs. Once again if it's too good to be true it probably is........

Had them on previous rigs and they went boom in the night faster than today's Marathons. They were all made across the western pond.

Thanks for the information. I need to do a little looking myself. I was thinking that Any G rated LT tire has to be better than Marathons. I don't have many choices where I live.

Well, now I have a headache. After searching for tires on the internet. I must be doing something wrong. I seach for tires and find lots of tires, ST and LT. But they show no load ratings. So then I go to the manufactures site and sometimes I find ratings and sometimes I don't. No Maxxis dealers within 100 miles or back ordered. Comertial T/A's are out of stock. Don't want to give the inventer of the Marathon $300 or more for G614's. I need to search some more for Bridgestone and Michelin tires. Any other manufactures that I should be looking at? I have Cooper tires on my TV. Do they make a suitable trailer tire? I want to stay at about $200 per tire or less.
Did some more research on the Kenda tires and found that most of the problems were from tires manufactured several years ago. Also Kendra more often than not refunded a substnatial amount on the bad tires and also paid for repairs to damaged trailers. That's something I haven't heard much about from Goodyear customers.
I'm also thinking about a TPMS. I was looking at the nVision and Tireminder systems. Any feedback on these?
Thanks

Goodyear is normally pretty good about damages according to some of the threads I've read, but who wants the stress of driving down the road waiting for the inevitable boom. I wouldn't go with any tire know for coming apart no matter what their repair history was. The problem is that those not known for coming apart aren't cheap.

You make a good point. There are other tires that have a good reputation and are much cheaper than the G614's. I'm just haveing a problem finding some.

I would check but most E rated LT tires should be in range of 3000 + lbs. I now have Michelin LTX tires on my rig because of the BFG recall. But I used to run Coopers on my trucks and motorhome and had no problems with them..I had Goodyear Wranglers on my one 5er and have heard of folks with the Bridgestones too. If you go to Tirerack.com you can look up tires and get prices and specs. Or if you have Discount Tire in your area you can look them on line and get installed prices, just remember they have some wiggle room from the on line prices to the in store prices. They came down $100 on the BFG's I was getting to write me the warranty.

Thanks for the info. You made me realize that I may have more options than I had previously thought. I was looking for tires with a 3500# - 3750# rating, thinking more is better. Realisticly I should only need tires rated at 3100# - 3200#. I'll have to look some more.
