Pin box failures

Reading forest river forums they have several pin box failures and said keystone has pin box failures also?

Has certainly happened. Usually it's the frame and is referred to as frame flex. Haven't heard of it on any of the newer larger framed rigs and while it comes up here from time to time, based on the number of rigs out there and the miles put on them it does seem to be rare.

We picked our Montana up in Lowell, Arkansas and towed it to Poplar Bluff, Missouri. I checked all the lug nuts and bolts on springs and hitch. A few were only finger tight. All the bolts on my hitch turned easily when I starte torquing them

We had quite a bit of cracking in the metal around the pin box, in addition to a structural failure in the frame, forward of the ODS propane tank, visible inside the compartment, all of which required extensive welding repair and reinforcement, a little over a week ago. Counting mileage from the factory, the rig has over 40,000 miles on it, so if anyone notices movement in the pinbox or other areas of the frame, it would be wise to have it inspected.

Understand that all these manufacturers use the same frame vendor. Newer montana rigs ( after 2013 I think) went to a stiffer frame (10" vs 12")...but they also grew longer somewhat. Then there are folks that tow things behind their fifth wheels, run over curbs, hit big pot holes, etc. Think it's bad luck if you are the one that has issues...except when the 10" frame was being used. And that was model related, long units vs shorter. Just my opinion. John
