Trust Goodyear tires???

Goodyear developed tires for delivery trucks and sell them as motorhome tires. The tires were not developed for highway speeds. After accidents cause injuries and deaths GY settles lawsuits and has the records sealed. They continue to sell the tires knowing people may die.

Profits over People.....sadly it seems to have become a common practice anymore. The article linked does not go into great detail, but the case will be worth following when GY releases its documents.

Let the buyer beware. Believe their record speaks for itself. These are tires not routinely used on trailers but the lack of trust should be a red flag.

It is a trust issue, GY is doing it to MH owners and there is no reason to think they would not do something similar to owners of 5ers and TTs. I lost trust in GY with the Marathon fiasco. Marathon was a good tire when it 1st came on the market, then GY turned them into Mara-bombs. They hid the fact they settled lawsuits where 95 people were injured or killed is bad enough but they are still selling the same tire knowing more may be injured or killed.

After reading the excellent article on Jalopnik, I would never have a GY on any trailer I own. Knowingly selling defective tires for years that they knew caused several deaths and acted in a manner that included sealing records so that there would be no investigation just makes them look like human life was of no consequence to the company.

Understood, they are a good tire, but so was the Marathon for a long time. The G614 have been around a while and have earned the reputation of 2nd best.

Since Goodyear treated the claims against it for tire failure pretty much like the tobacco companies treated smokers for years, I will never own anything with the name Goodyear on it. Any company that chooses to spend its money hiding problems with its products rather than fixing them should be put out of business.

I'll never buy Goodyear tires again after the Marabombers I dealt with on my trailer. Put Michelin after the Goodyears and will go with the Sailum tires next because of price.

One of my 614's on the old rig blew and since it had 110# it did a good deal more damage than a Marathon would have.

That would be just like one of my semi tires having a blowout, can cause severe damage in a short time. Look at all the tire shrapnel alongside the highways,albiet a lot of that is from recapped tires, and hitting against steel or solid aluminum decking,NOT the flimsy aluminum that is used on our 5rs.

Were the Goodyear G-159 tires intended for use on motorhomes in the first place? Of course they stopped making them almost 15 years ago.

I wont use Goodyear after some Wrangler failures on a pickup or Marathons (Canadian made)after they failed on our last 5er. I'm also squeamish with any tire that has Bridgestone - Firestone on the sidewall. This not because of failures on Explorers with underinflated tires but the fact that they wore out way too soon.

The TV has the Ford optional larger size Michelin Defenders which are doing well and the 5er has General LTs which show very little wear after 18K miles. Sailuns were just starting to make their RV appearance in May 2015 when the Generals were purchased but will be on the list when new shoes are needed.

With this said, GY has a new RV, Endurance, tire that has been reported doing well but still wont grace the wheels on our HC

did you carry 110# in your G614....

since purchasing mine in september 2016, I have been just that......
I had a tech tell me yesterday that I am asking for major problems since the 110 is max and to start with 110 in it , as the tire heats from the road it would expand 7 to 12 lbs, and that the tire can not handle 122 lbs. and when (not if) it blows there will be major issues, when the max states 110#

Inflation specs are for cold tires - if the max inflation is stated at 110 PSI then it is safe to inflate to 110 PSI. Based on the feedback I get with my TST 507, tire pressure goes up to around 125 PSI when hot.

Joe: I would put that "tech" in the same class as the salesman at the RV dealership who says your Toyota 1/4 ton can pull the 40 foot fiver you like.
