Adding water?

where we camp there are no water hookups, we only camp there on weekends, i usually take a couple 6 gallon water jugs along to add water if an additional shower is taken or we go for a long weekend. Problem our rig does not have the old style fill port, we have a single hose connection with a tank fill or city switch. Is it possible to make a hose/funnel combo and put switch to tank fill and fill this way, or is there a check valve that needs pressure to open the valve?

On the street side rear corner or our rig there is a little cap that lifts off. Under that is a screen that I believe you can take out and fill that way thru the overflow port.

The vent cap at the rear will come off and you can fill from there.

I bought a small 12 volt pump from Harbor Freight and do it the easy way no lifting required. Just hook up a small 3 or 6 foot hose to the RV then another small hose going into your water jug hook your 12volt pump to your battery and it pumps right into your RV. My pump was about $30. I did make another small mod I used a small hose then adapted a piece of pvc pipe so I could put that into my jug my hose kept curling up in my jug.

On my 3790RD, Keystone have a vent which will serve as a gravity fill, but in their wisdom they decided to locate it under the number plate. Should you wish to use this and not remove the number plate each time, you can re-position the number plate so that it above the rear light, not below it.
I use a hose from the winterizing connection into the water jug.

Look on this forum and you can use a short hose and the winterizing hookup and pump water out of your container and into your fresh water tank. I tried the vent thing and it really did not work for for me. Much easier to use the units pump and move the water.

if i understand this correctly, i can siphon out of the jug and into the FW tank via the winterize connection? I was under the impression it didn't winterize the tank only the lines, but if i turn the valve to tank fill, it will fill tank? that would be better than the vent, it was a PITA last night, 3.5 gallons in tank, 2.5 gallon on the ground

Here's another option to put water in your fresh water tank when boondocking. This works but is a little slow, I can fill about 3 gals/minute doing this: (at least for our 3160 setup)

Connect water container with short hose to winterizing input
Flip winterizing valve to winterize
Connect outside shower hose to city water input
Flip city water valve to fill tank
Turn on water pump
Turn on cold water at outside shower
Pump until container is empty
Repeat as needed
disconnect all hoses
return all valves to normal position

If you put a bleach solution in the water container, this method can also be used to pump bleach/disinfectant into the fresh water tank.

We also camp without hookups. On-board water for the two of us will last about 3 days. This is what I use for extended stays; the pump fills my fresh water tank just like the hose at home.

Starmaster is correct. My wife and I just returned from a 2 week boon docking trip to assategue island MD. I did just as he directed an sucked water from a cooler into the water tank. It is a little slow but it works. I have a 2011 3455sa witch still has the gravity fill port but is a pita to lift up and pour in out of a heavy container. On another note, some else said they were out of water in 3 days (must be really wasting a lot) . I took a shower every day while my wife used the bath house and we could have gone for 2 weeks without having to refill the water tank.
