GPS eval in PC World mag

Latest issue of PC World has an evaluation on the new Magellan Crossover GPS unit. Not too flattering. You may want to take a look at the article. Biggest complaint I believe is that it is really too big for walk-around use and portable route planning is hard to use.

The individual will get the system that meets their individual needs. In the systems that I have seen in use they all do pretty much the same thing. We use the Garman GPS-18 that is a hocky puck sized receiver that connects into our Lap top PC.It does the job. Our rational for going that way was that we have the verizon aircard and we carry the PC in the truck with us as we have internet connection most of the time and use it to find C.G,s fuel stops, Etc so the PC serves a dual purpose..GPs connection and internet connection..The large screen display does not hurt.

I purchased a Magellen Roadmate 700 about a year ago. Now, after using it awhile and a whole lot more competition around, I wish I had a smaller unit (for walk around use)but the funds are already spent!!. It works fine - we do our "trip planning" with a laptop and then use the GPS to keep from getting lost !!
