Under the Stair Light

Can someone please explain to me the reason Keystone hooked up the "under the stair" light to the DS scare light and not to the porch light switch?

Has anyone changed the wiring?

Just guessing ... many people in my circle of RVing don't leave the porch light on due to bugs (even yellow light). Say you're returning from being out and about ... hit the remote security button ... scare light comes on as well as the step light to get you in the fiver. Fishing a wire from the wall switch to the step light would be doable yet a bit of a challenge. You'd have to be sure to adequately terminate the original hot wire going to the step light.

I wondered the dame thing. I ended up putting the stair light on its own switch. I figured no reason to have it come on when the porch light is on as it wouldn't be needed then. I like having the stairs illuminated by themselves without any other lights on. All of the wiring is already there behind the panel that all of the switches are mounted on, no new wires have to be ran. Tim

I replaced my porch light with a starlights smart light 1000 and my scare light with the starlights smart light 2000. They are LED motion detection lights that have 2 modes of operation. one mode operates like your regular light either on or off. The second mode is motion detection. When I go to sleep or am away from my rv I leave them in motion detection mode this way when I return or some appraches my rv while I'm sleeping the lights come on. Also my step light stays on all the time as a night light and my porch and scare light will come on when it senses motion. I really like them

You aren't the only one scratching your head on this one.

I'm guessing because the porch light is located right by the door and steps for that reason. You don't need your under step light on when you have your porch light on. The porch light is aimed slightly downward to illuminate your door, steps and the area under your awning. The scare light, being located far forward away from the door, is an area or flood light to illuminate the perimiter. With only the scare light on and not your porch light I can see the need to have the under step light on because the scare light is not going to light up the step area. I have a 3750FL and only have an under step light on my front door steps and not my back door steps..Go figuire

Some have switched the wire for the step light to the porch light but I don't know how they did it. I will find out later next month since we will be down in AZ and we'll be changing it over on our rig. I also have to change my step light because somehow it had gotten broke and I lost the lens for it between Omaha and the Fall Rally this year and Keystone Service Center did not notice it when I had the rig in there to get some things taken care of while at the Rally. 1retired06-- you may not have noticed it but all units, especially the newer one, have the step light under them connected to the frame behind the outside steps. You may not have noticed it because if you do not turn on the scare light on the door side it will not come on and show up!

Well, if we've got one, we've never seen or used it - but then again, we've only used the 'scare' light by accident.

We ran a wire from a new switch to the stairs and installed a LED fixture. Wasn't too difficult.
