I think you'll find that new mexico and arizona have the best preserved sections of the mother road. East of albuquerque clear through town (central have) is quite a few miles that I always rode bicycles on. An old section of old 66 used to loop up to santa fe. And if you or he likes narrow gauge railroads...then a ride on the cumbres and toltec out of chama, new mexico is a must do...much better than durango to silverton in colorado! In arizona, there is a tiny section at painted desert, some in flagstaff, the main street in williams (gateway to grand canyon), and a decent bit on both sides of seligman. In albuquerque, he might enjoy the tram ride to the top of sandia mountain. John
