How far do MOC members travel in a day?

I was just wondering what folks consider a good days traveling in time and distance. I know there are a lot of factors to consider Interstate vs. a 2 lane highway, towing on an interstate in Texas vs. towing around Washington DC. But for planning purposes what do folks consider a good days traveling? I do know ten years ago I could tow my TT straight thru from Orlando to my home in Northern Virginia, now I am ready to call it a day about the time I reach Savannah Georgia. so I know this is a bit age dependent.

If we have somewhere to go and will be spending the night on a parking lot we will drive further than if we are stoping at a campground. Either way I don't like to drive after dark, not because I feel uncomfortable, but because I don't want to be on the road that long and would rather get dinner and to bed early. I guess on average we're on the road 6-7 hours included in that are rest stops and leisurely lunch.

We try to do around 200 miles a day if we are not trying to be someplace for some sort of appointment ... or trying to beat a Tornado possibility going across Kansas

We try to keep it between 200-250 miles in a day. For sure we don't travel at night as I don't see as well then.

For us it is about 6-7 hours, usually on the road by 8AM and off somewhere around 3 which allows us some time to enjoy before supper. We usually plan 20 minute breaks every couple of hours to water us and the dog.

Traveling to and from AZ we use a 3 & 4 rule of thumb, stop between 3 & 4 pm and between 300 & 400 miles that includes refueling, rest areas, and usually a picnic lunch. Traveling to Goshen is 500 miles so we will do about 250 per day. We winter in FL and its 825 miles and like 2 night stops, then arrive early afternoon the third day at final destination. An exception is returning from Top Sail Hill to stick house at 475 miles and we do that in one day, but on arrival we do nothing but stop and leave everything for the next day. We have done much shorter trips like 85 miles between CGs if there is a point of interest.

Pull out at 0900 and stop at 14-1500. Travel for us is part of the fun, not work.

We prefer not to exceed 250 miles or six hours, whichever comes first. We also prefer not to drive at night.

That's worked very well for us.

Of course, we've broken that "rule" on occasion, like when we're getting close to home and that magnet has a big pull on us. We've driven over 600 miles in a day - a very rare occurrence.

We dislike pulling into a campground after dark, especially one with overhanging trees and our big Monte. IF we can get to a campsite by 4pm we're the proverbial happy campers.

Not less than 4 hours and not more than 6 hours. Campgrounds dictate the leg of the trip between the 4-6 hours. We travel with 5 dogs, so we do not want to be on the road for extended periods.

300 is a good day, depending on roads and weather conditions.

We Plan on being on the road by 9am and leave when we are ready. I use a tank of fuel as our bench mark or 3:30-4, which ever comes first. Remember, its the journey not the destination. You never know what you may see or do on the way, which could alter your trip.

250 miles per day...give or take.....try not to go over 300....even if all interstate Driving....out between 9-10 and in campgrd between 3-4 pm.

Being a former truck driver, I drive more hours than miles in a day. As I get older I find the hours in a day have gotten a lot shorter. 10 hours used to be my limit, but I find I'm ready to stop after 6 or 7 hrs. now and sometimes a lot less. I do catch myself driving straight through on a 1000 mile trip when not pulling the Monty. I hate motels so I just keep going. As for night driving, I love to drive at night. Granted you can't see as much, but the trade off is a whole lot less traffic at night and we Like that when going through a big city like Dallas where there is a lot of highway & lane changing. Everybody is different, but the destination is what I'm looking for, not the driving. YMMV.

It depends on what we are doing. When we went back to Virginia for my son's wedding this summer we did 2,800 miles in 5 days. Didn't have much choice couldn't leave sooner and had to be there for the wedding in 5 days.

If we are just lollygagging along then 250 to 300 miles in a day.

Thanks everyone. I am surprised how consistent the replies, most in the 250 to 300 mile range. I would have thought that most folks would travel about 400 to 450 miles /day.
Barb and I are planning our first long post retirement trip to the South West and where wondering how to plan our travel time. Always before we had to be back in 2 or 3 weeks but now are looking a couple of months of kicking around . I like the 250 to 300 mile range.

We like leaving Connecticut around 2-3 AM when heading south via New York and New Jersey. Mainly to avoid the NY traffic crossing the Hudson River and getting as far south past Elizabeth N.J. Once past Elizabeth we will stop for breakfast and then head for Virginia Beach heading south on Route 13. We will stop for lunch when we are hungry then continue to Virginia Beach for the first overnight stop and spend a day or two with an old army buddy. It's about 350 miles all together for that trip and that is the longest we do on any trip. I guess it takes 10-12 hours with all the stops etc. I would prefer no more than 8 hours at the most and that is what we usually try for.

For us, it really varies. We prefer 200 miles or less, but have no problem with longer ranges (a couple time, 500 miles - highway). Just depends on where we are, where we're going, and what's between.....

We will usually spend about 10 hours on the road .We both drive so that cuts down the number of hours driven per person. We stop a lot for pit stops and leg stretching so the number of miles traveled is whatever fits into the 10 hours or so we are on the road.
