After procrastinating for a week or so, I finally ordered my X-Factor today. I called Mor/ryde again and was told they have a non-adjustable crossmember that is less expensive and would work fine on the Montana. I am just going to go with the one X-Factor on the LRE spring hangers for the time being. Thanks for all of your inputs.

Jack

If they have a non-adjustable IMO it would be the best way to go. They should not be any harder to install considering the bolts have to be removed ,and replaced with longer ones.

The one thing I am curious about on the non-adjustable is do they ask for a measurement between the hangers ? Ellis gave me his measurements ,and they are slightly different then mine, not a lot , but enough that if I fabricate his to match mine they will not fit right.Thats where the adjustable style come into play, one size fits all.

Greg,
I did not measure between the LRE Spring brackets, but took the Mor/ryde rep at his word. I hope I don't end up regretting it. If I get the opportunity in the next day or so I can crawl under the rig and get that measurement for comparison to yours. Also, when it arrives, I will measure it and send you the length. I am expecting it late next week. If you want I can also take some photos of it to send to you.

Greg,
Thanks for that info.....makes me feel a bit better about getting the fixed length one. It sure does seem like it would be more rigid than the adjustable one.

For any that are interested, I just got done measuring the distance between the center LRE spring hanger on our rig (2010 Montana 3455SA)and here is what I came up with. I measured at the bottom of the bracket and included the thickness of the spring hanger and the spring in the measurement for a total of 64 ¼”. The thickness of the bracket and spring where I took the measurement is a total of ½” on each side. So when I subtract the 1” I come up with 63 ¼” between the inside of the LRE spring hangers which is where the X-Factor will bolt to.

I ended up getting the middle X-Facter adjustable for LRE cross member. Installed in less than 1 hour, before our trip this last weekend. One less thing I have to worry about now.

Do you have a part number for the non-adjustable unit?

Mike,
I just noticed your signature photo and that is the same exact truck we have on order....same color, trim level and rear end!!!
I do not have the part number. I contacted Mor/ryde directly and spoke with Ben Wiginton. Here is the e-mail he sent to me regarding my inquiry:

"Hello Jack,
Thanks for the email and continued interest in our products.

For the Keystone Montana frame we have two options. First would be a standard cross member that is not adjustable, the price for this is $118.32. We then have our adjustable system which can adjust to any frame width, the cost for this is $167.99. The less expensive cross member will work fine for your unit.

I can help you with ordering if you would like to do so, the above prices do not include shipping charges, I estimate $25.00 for each cross member to ship to Oak Harbor.

Please contact me if you would like to order.

Thanks,

Ben Wiginton

Thanks. Hope you like your truck as well as we like ours. I haven't towed with it yet. Thought about ordering one of the 800's but the dealer gave me such a great deal on this one in March, I couldn't pass it up.

Jack, I seem to be the odd man out here, mine is 63 1/2" . I am 1/4 wider than you and Ellis. The right middle hanger on mine is kicked out just slightly it is 63 1/2" at bottom ,and 63 5/16" at the top. If that was pulled square it would be 63 1/4 top ,and bottom.
63 1/4" seems to be pretty consistent . You should fine. Looks like they build them to fit 63 1/4" . Sorry I gave you some worry, Being 1/4 different than Ellis to me was too much difference. If I would of built Ellis's a 1/4 longer he may not of got it to fit, those middle hangers are pretty rigid.

MOC Member zman08 and myself installed the X-Factor, fixed length, center support member on our rigs last week. The install was pretty straight forward, but a couple of the bolts at the top of the LRE brackets on each of our rigs were a little awkward to get to. Once the nuts and bolts were installed and torqued to specs everything snugged up quite nicely. We are both going to stick with just the center cross member for the time being and see haw things work out.

Thanks to all of you for your inputs and other advice!!!

Jack

When John G. (johnnyg) and I did mine he broke out the [s]9/19[/s] 9/16th with a unerversal as part of the socket. It made the difference it removal, tightening and reinsertion of the longer bolt. Yes it requires a contortionist.

So for those that have installed the X-Factor brace....The instructions say that you need to jack up the rig and support with jack stands. Is there any reason other than giving you additional room underneath the coach that this step can't be skipped?

Thanks,
Tim

Yes a Major Reason. The four bolts on each side of the LRE Mor/ryde suspension holds HALF the rubber suspension system. When you remove those bolts only the outside bolts hold the rubber in place, this weaken the suspension and I expect it would rip out. Plus the weight of the trailer would push the inside holes out of alignment. The four bolts have to be removed and put back in from the inside of the LRE. The four jack stands support the trailer while you almost remove it's suspension. Hope this helps.

Tim,
John hit the nail on the head.....and with the weight of the trailer on the suspension you cannot even get to the head of the top 2 bolts. Don't feel bad, I had the same question, but when I crawled under the rig to take a look it was obvious.
