winter/spring---for our northern friends
Down here in central Texas, I saw and heard a good many geese flying over today, heading north, maybe winter is winding down.

Humorist Lewis Grizzard, who lived and worked in Atlanta, got a job offer he could not turn down...in Chicago. He got out of there as soon as he could, was there about a year. He said Chicago has two seasons, July 4th and winter.

My wife saw a robin a few days ago during one of our snow falls. She said it didn't look happy.

We hope that winter is over! Just got news that we have to head to Ohio next week to take care of some business. Way to early to head that far north.

The Sandhill cranes have arrived for their stop over visit to the Grand Island and Kearney, NE areas along the Platte River here. They stop over here and belly up to the cornfields in the area to replenish their strength for their continued flight to the North. The water is high in the South Platte around Grand Island and it is litterly overflowing it's banks.
While out at the farm today, I was out checking out the Monte and when I walked out of the "Monte Home" I head geese honking. Looked around and we had a few in the corn field next to our property but looked up and there were flock upon flock of geese flying overhead. There must have been over a thousand in just one pass and we had four or five pass overs of these birds heading North. They were making sure they would not get shot at. They had to have been at least two thousand feet up and possibly more! Heck, I don't think you could have got to them with an anti-aircraft gun. They were so high you could barely make them out in the sunsetting sky. There was no way they were going to land on the Platte here or the areas around it.
