Slipper Springs

Has anyone heard of or used Slipper Springs on their 5er? Seems it is a common design on big rigs and trailers. My neighbor just got back from their annual Canada run and had talked to a 5er owner that said it is better than stock and very similar to "IS" suspension only much less expensive .

Just though I'd throw it out their and get some feedback.

Differences Between Slipper Spring Systems and Double-Eye Spring Systems
  • Shape of spring
  • Weight capacity of slipper springs is generally greater than double-eye springs
  • Fewer moving parts on slipper spring suspensions, fewer parts to maintain
  • Slipper spring systems ride a little more roughly than double-eye spring systems
From E-trailer

Same as an IS system, I think no.

You loose the IS system at rougher ride. Our new IS is worth every penny.

Thank you both for thoughts. I think part of my process to make the change is also to gain and inch or two of height to try and level the 5er while hooked up. Going to the 85 Sailun tires helped a tad bit. Certainly would love to have disc brakes.

If you do go with the IS and disk brakes from Morryde they will match the rig to your truck as a part of what they do.

That’s always good to know. I didn’t know they did that. I’m in line to get the Morryde IS & disc brake system. My 5th wheel sits up too high in the front since I got a new truck & hitch

They will measure both before and after so you can see what they've done and it should be very close to level when they are through. They also measure the height before and after.

Well - after talking to MorRyde, I see why it is so much better that what I have, stock.

They do offer a winter discount on parts … booking for next year already

Here is a link to the folks that sell the slipper spring kit. Forrest River is using it on some of their fifth wheels.

http://roadmasterinc.com/products/tr...fort_ride.html

I looked at it but decided to go with the MorRyde SRE4000. Probably not as good and certainly not as good as the Morryde IS but I had already installed disc brakes and did not want to put out the extra money. So far I am happy with the SRE-4000 and new wet bolt kits. I also installed the MorRyde X-Factor cross members on all three spring hangers.
