sometimes you're just lucky (update)
My brakes on our f250 sd have been making a grinding noise since spring. Not that I don't maintain them but sitting in the winter the semi metallic brakes always put rust spots on the rotors. Which in turn make noise when stopping. I have already put two sets on pads and rotors on the last about 18 months ago.
so,again before making a trip to Sampson state park last week I removed the front tires inspected the pads (like new yet) rotors are good. There I say to myself,I feel better that the brakes are ok and the noise is the typical rust spots again.
left for sampson about 150 miles across state,no problems,returned home on thursday,no problems. Parked in driveway to empty out stuff,when finished started truck,put into reverse,no go?? so put it into drive and it pulls ahead ok??? put back into reverse and it backs up went back about 50 feet touch pedal,goes to floor!!! quickly back into drive,pumped pedal and brakes return whew!! park camper put truck into building to check over. LONG story short,pulled apart found right side sliding pins jammed so pad was stuck to rotor. So now,both sides apart,pins cleaned,rotors turned,and ordered ceramic brake pads to hopefully stop rotor rust. so glad it did it in driveway after 360 miles of interstate and highway driving. as I said, sometimes your just LUCKY...
