Bakersfield CA. to Muskegon Mi.

Leaving Bakersfield 1st week of May to pick up new monty, I'm thinking my most direct route is I15 to salt lake, then 80 west to Mi. never been there, just looking at a map,any suggestions thanks.

Some on this forum have suggested avoiding I-80 around Chicago when towing the 5'er. Others have used it but timed it for low traffic times, like early on a Sunday morning. Perhaps some locals from that area can give you a couple of alternative routes around the Windy City.

I don't believe there is any realistic alternative to 80 around Chicago. We hate it, hate it, hate it but that's the route. Sunday morning would be my suggestion

Is there was anyway you could swing up and travel hwy 2? We have used that route to Glacier Ntl. park and would rather take the long route then go around Chicago. We've tried different times of day or week and it all depends too on road work being done. Also hwy. 2 is a good road to travel. Good luch with getting your new Monty. Stacy

I have been across the north side of lake Michigan. It is a very scenic drive. The bridge at the Mackinaw straits is worth the drive.

We've traveled I-80 around Chicago for years pulling RVs and never had any problems. Slow down, drive defensively, stay back from traffic ahead.

You can take 69 south to 70 to 44 to 40 and run 40 all the way to CA.
If you would like a scenic route through WI, MN, SD, CO,and Utah.
Let me know

It's not just the traffic, the roads just beat everything to death and you have to pay tolls too.
