New lights PICS ADDED

I installed 12 volt rope lights around the kitchen counter today. I "borrowed" the idea from snfexpress. Now we have a light when we first enter the rig and don't have to search for the light switch in the dark. I also installed some under the bath vanity. They make a nice soft light at night when we need to use the loo and don't have to turn on the overhead light. I'd love to show you pictures but adding pictures is beyond my capabilities at the present time. I'll need remedial training at one of the rallys this coming year. If you want to see what they look like, search "rope lights" and look for snfexpress' post. That's the best I can offer.

Great idea and the rope doesn't use much amps and don't put off any heat. We have them under the kitchen isle and behind the cabinet under the TV in the bedroom and also in our cabinets that holds the dishes and the pantry. GBY....

Jim did you use 110 or 12v rope lites. I have a 110 plugin in my island and I dont think it would be hard to install the 110 lites and a switch in it.

I tied into the CO detector wiring for my 12 volt source. The rope lights come in 120 volt also. The company is sailorsam.com. I bought the warm white rope. The cool white rope is brighter and more industrial looking. I wanted the softer light. I'll try to get pictures up this evening. H. John Kohl was kind enought to set the links up for me.

Can the rope light be cut to any length? Is there an "end cap" that connects the wires inside back together or something?

Thanks Jim I would rather use 12v but my island is free standing and the CO detector is on the wall. I will take another look.

So NCFichers and snfexpress, how many meters did you order? Did you use LumaFLEX? What was your parts list and how much did the improvement cost? I have been thinking about doing this since snfexpress did it last year...but life and time goes on. Any info you can provide will help be sell it to the DW. You both have 3400RL units, right?

I have a 3665RE. I ordered 13 feet of rope light and used 11 feet, 3 inches under my kitchen counter and the balance under the bath vanity. I needed two power cords and two end caps. I also ordered a double switch. I removed the single switch from the bathroom and used it under the kitchen counter. I installed the double switch in the bath. The cost for the parts was around $100.00. I did what snfexpress did. I ran a bead of silicone under the counters and pressed the rope light into it. I held it up with strips of tape until the silicone set.

I just went to sailor Sams web site ane looked at 120 volt rope for a customer. The 12 volt needs to be ordered by the foot and can be cut every 3 inches. The 120 volt rope needs to be ordered by the yard and can only be cut every 3 feet. This may present a problem for you.
