Engine Brake for New Dodge Trucks

A few days ago I happened to talk to the Dodge Tech and learned that Dodge with Cummins Diesels plan a new improvement over the next year or two.

I was told that, hopefully, in the 2013 or 2014 model year Dodge trucks with Cummins engines will be available from the factory with the Exhaust brake plus a real Engine Brake like the Jacobs Engine Brake that has been available on large trucks for years.

The Exhaust brake is really an adaptation of the Turbocharger to constrol restriction of exhaust gasses and works. By adding the internal engine brake (Jake Brake) the braking will be that much imporoved over anything available now.

The Tech indicated that the new Dodge trucks will be equiped with both types of brakes at the factory. As for as we know, no other brand of trucks engines for light trucks will be so equiped.

I have had all of my Semis equiped with Jake Brakes for years and this is the way to go.

The turbo brake in my 2011 works very well, I don't know why they would need to add another?

If the Banks exhaust brake is any indication (as used on the Ford 7.3L diesel, but not available for 6.0L or newer diesels), it's intended to take braking-load off the transmission. So it introduces braking after the transmission, at the drive shaft.

Rancherwill, thats the story of my life, after I buy a new toy they always seem to upgrade it so I have to sit and watch everybody else have fun with there's.
that will deffinitly be the hottest setup for the Commins light truck power plant now they need to get that allison transmission hooked up.

Gee, with 95% of the downgrades we already have to apply a little bit of throttle to keep it from slowing down too much. Add a jake brake and I'll have to accelerate down nearly every grade! Seriously, the current combination of turbo-based exhaust brake and tow/haul do such a great job I can't imagine what it would be like with a jake brake. Should be awesome.
