Tonneau cover for P/U
I have a custom made vinyl cover for my hitch. It does a pretty good job of protecting it from the elements. I am thinking about installing a tonneau cover on the pick-up and doing away with the vinyl cover. Does anyone have this system installed on your truck to protect your hitch? And are you satisfied with it? If so do you have any recommendations? Thanks for your replys.

I have the cover for the hitch and I have a soft tonneau "black max". If I was doing it again I would get a roll up. I bought too big a tool box for behind the cab to allow a roll up now.

Still waters
I purchased a soft tonneau from the dealer when I got my 06 Dodge. It goes on/off very easy. My first one was on a GMC and my initial reaction was to take it off as I didn't like the look. I wound up liking it so much that it was a must have on the new rig.
We just tie it back when towing, keeps the hitch clean when were not.

We have a Truxedo Tonneau Cover and love it.
I installed a tailgate keylock along with the cover. Used with the tonneau it gives a little security to items in bed when shopping etc.

I have the Roll-N-Loc for my F-350 King Ranch CC, LB Dually. I really like it. I had to reverse the release handle on the 5th because it stuck up to far in the 16K Reese. (one of the Cons)
Cons:
**If hitch is high you will have to lower it, or if it is just a little hight, bungee it level to close the top.
**Takes up about 8-10 inches of the top of the bed even with the rail next to the window
**Pricey - $1100+some installed
PROS:
**Gives you a hard shell of aluminum when closed with a leather look on top.
**Has five lock positions for a long bed; Full rolled up, 3/4, 1/2, 1/4 and Full closed
**The top locks to the tailgate. Combined with tailgate lock gives good security - out of sight, out of mind.
**Strap attached for easy close, or pull to one of the positions
I'd buy one again if I needed to.

We had the Truxedo on the '04 Silverado. Liked it so much we had the dealer put one on the new Silverado. A few things I like about the Truxedo - it is one of the few that adjusts for shrinkage of the cover in winter, it has support rods across every about 16", it uses velcro on the side rails and has a nice catch design in the back. One person can roll/unroll it. And it fits nicely above the hitch. There are lots of good ones out there, this just happens to be one that's worked for me. My boss asked about a good tonneau cover and I recommended it. He loves his too.

I have the Pace Edwards Full Metal Jacket http://www.tonneau-covers-online.com...FQsmIgodSTyeXw.
Can be locked in place every 12". I can put stuff in front of the hitch and pull the cover back near the hitch and lock it to keep things out of view. I like the clean look of it when not towing.
Fairly easy to install yourself (but need two people). Just clamps on, no driling.
Similar to the Truxedo and Roll-N-Loc noted above. And the same pros and cons Wayne noted.

Thanks to all for your responses. I think I will look into purchasing one. Not sure what choices to make.

Another vote for the Truxedo, in this case, the Deuce model (it also opens from the front). I have had one on each of the last two trucks we had/have.

We're real happy with the Access cover. Purchased the smaller model that allows for a fullsize toolbox on a short box. http://tinyurl.com/6httc3

I vote for the rol-n-lock as you can lock the tail gate and the cover any time you need such as tool box in back or outboard motor , anything lock it john

The Truxedo has a lock as well. But if the thief wants in they will cut the vinyl and get in anyway. I have a Truxedo on my current truck and have had one on the last 3. I have a RBW hitch and the handle is never in the way.

Truxedo here to. Very easy to install. However I did put a few screws along the inside to make it a little harder to steal. On my F250 KR CC SB I found I have to be careful not to roll it up too far as the tie down straps plastic parts wore off some of the paint on the back of the cab.
