Some do's and don'ts with new flooring

Our 2955 carpet and flooring in the kitchen,,along with the bathroom is showing age??? We'd like to hear the positives and negitives you've encountered when changing out flooring to the new "planking" alternatives. Your ideas of colours, thickness, to glue or float the planks,,what you did for the slides and the problems encountered with the slight overhang when the slides are in?? How about weight,,,is that a concern?? How easy did you find cutting the planking to fit critical areas?? All suggestions welcome
We appreciate all your suggestions---Thanks,,Ron and Mickey

We are considering replacing our carpet too. I was never a big fan of carpet anyway and the stuff they use in RVs is really cheap.

I am thinking the heavy duty (thick, commercial) vinyl planking would be the way to go. It is easy to cut and goes down fast.

Following this one for sure.

You might want to look at the availability of the woven PVC "carpet" they are putting in the mid-year 2020s. Not sure how it wears, but it looks to be a step up from regular carpet.

Question is what to do with the little step for the slide?

We used a softer roll vinyl product, it just molds over the edge.

I'd second that, certainly there mush be a distribution point for the public. Maybe if we knew the manufactures name it could be sourced..

We certainly like the look and feel of it when doing the tours during Rally

We have a 2007 Montana 3400RL and removed all the carpet in the kitchen and LR area, but NOT the slides, a few years ago and replaced it with Allure Vinyl Plank Flooring. Overall, it was quite easy to do. It is a lot easier to keep clean than the carpet. We still have carpet in the slides as I wasn't comfortable with how the vinyl in the slides would "mesh" with the main floor with the slides out.

It was not expensive either. End result is very nice. Sorry no pix - RV is winterized with cover right now.

Just replaced the carpet in our 2013 3725 rl. I used a good quality glue down vinyl plank. Love the look. Easy to cut with a utility knife and snips. Much easier to keep clean. We just replaced the carpet on the main slide in the living room with newer, better piece of carpet. The wife loves it so that seals it for me.

Premium vinyl planks. Take your time and itís easy to do. We left the carpet in the slides, it was still in good shape.

Flooring

I spent a good deal of last summer taking out all carpet and putting in vinyl plank floors and remodeling kitchen in my 2010 3150RL. The carpet is a source of allergens and molds.

We installed Cortec Plus Red River Hickory flooring and weight is not an issue. Taking the carpet out of the bedroom was a pain because of so many staples and the way they tucked the carpet behind things. There was a lot of shoddy work that the carpet covered up and be prepared to figure out ways to redo things right. Secured one side of flooring and floated the rest, put 3/4" quarter round to cover up joints around walls and cabinets. We love the floors and breathe a lot better with the carpet gone. We put a foot wide carpet runner over the slide edges until we can find something better.

Well worth doing

We purchased a 2010 Montana this summer and absolutely love it. I am very allergic to carpet, and so we have spent many weekends replacing it. We're almost done and so glad we did it. It's a lot of work to get all the the little carpet pieces pulled out from all the tight places, and you'll find carpet wrapped around all kinds of things and covering up all kinds of things. We used vinyl planking and it's floating. We used quarter-round for the moulding, and used flexible trim for the rounded wall in the bedroom. We put the vinyl planking in the slides as well, right up to the edge. We put a transition strip right next to where the slide starts. We are going to use a vinyl sheet on the edges of the slides in the kitchen and where the fireplace is. It's been quite a process, but it is so well worth it. I can now breathe in the camper, whereas before I would be struggling with allergies within a half-hour of being in the unit. We highly recommend doing this.
