Heater ducts

Ok here is the big question for 2004 2980RL owners. How do I access the plenum for the heater? I was told it was under the stairs ..... but which one? bottom or center. do I remove the riser or the step.
I'm lost....
also If you have a picture please share it with me.

Thanks. TT2

Hi Don,
The furnace plenum, (or end of the furnace) on my 3400RL is accessed from removing the plastic wall by the cornvienence center. Why would you want to get to the furnace plenum? Noisy?
I'm not sure on yours, but I think it's about 18"x18" or so.

I want to rerout the vent tubes and check for blockages it seems to get the floor warmer than the 5er in the area of the steps.

Ahhh, It may be that the return air is there, and the heat vent closest to the return will 'short circuit' to the return, making it a warm area. I don't know the layout on your unit, but maybe a flashlight and inspection mirror will help find the furnace ducting. These furnaces can handle an extra outlet, lots of airflow.
Good luck.

Don,
I have a 3280 which is almost the same as yours just a little longer. To get to the duct I had to remove the steps and you can see the duct.
There are 2 screws in the front, near the floor, (heads in the carpet) and on the sides. Slide your fingers across the carpet and you can feel them.
You may want to check the other end of the duct also. I wanted to install another register under the big window in the rear and the duct goes all the way to the back of the unit. When I cut the opening and looked in there was nothing on the end of the duct to keep the air from blowing into the floor. They had tape across there and it had dried out and blown off.
I blocked it off and now I have a register right under the window.

Thanks awaywego I hope thats where the screws are I'll check it out.

Ozz my return air is on the pinisula island above the propane sniffer. I dont know if the heater hose thats supose to heat the tanks is loose, but I dont have the air flow that I think I should have for the amount of noise the fan on the blower makes, it's always been a worthless heater compaired to others Ive seen in RV's.

Don,
I found some very large gaps in the connections of the vent hoses to the blower box in my unit. In some cases only one of the 3 "teeth" were actually engaged. That could result in the type of symptoms you are experiencing. I posted pics back in may or june of 07 but they would probably be in archieves by now.

Thanks Bill I have a feeling that something like that might be my problem, once I get to that plenum under the stair's. but the Monty is in the storage lot right now so I'll keep getting information compiling it then go to war.
