Replacing Shower Skylight

I'm going to have to replace the shower skylight this week and I was wondering if anyone else has had to do it and specifically how do you get all the sealer off the roof without wrecking it so you can put the new one in? My outer skylight looks like it has pressure cracks in it and its only a matter of time before they creep and get bigger!

I was able to remove the sealant around one of our vents by just peeling it away with my thumbs and fingers. A bit tedious, but I was able to do it without causing any damage to the rubber roof. Make sure that you have suitable caulk to replace it with. I had to read the fine print on the tube to be sure i had the right stuff. (If you can find the Dicor brand, that would be safest).

I have replaced a Fantastic fan and used a plastic putty knife to get the old caulking off. If it cool warm it up with a hair dryer.

I replaced the front vent over the bed with a Fantastic fan and also used my fingers to peel up the old sealant. Then used dicor lap sealant before I put the fan in, and then put it over the screw heads. Then I used eternabond over the flange and sealed it to the roof. Very watertight now.

Yep - I also added a fantastic fan to our bathroom using the same process of the others. Just be careful to get the "self-leveling" type Dicor sealant for the roof. The "non-sag" Dicor is for the sides.

If I had to replace our skylight, I would be tempted to do away with it. I have towels stuffed in between the inside layer and the outside layers of the skylight. The light is nice but IMHO it lets in too much heat as well as a lot of light if you are parked right under a street light at night.
