To All GM Owners
This is to all of you folks out there with any of the GM trucks. What for repairs to the drive train has had to be done to your trucks at around 100K miles?
The old Silverado now has 110,203 miles on it. During the service interval at around 60 or 80,000 miles, a rear axle hub seal was leaking. At 104,000 miles, it was leaking, again! Also the right front hub was loose which caused the wheel to wobble. Now, at 110,000 miles, the left front hub was loose causing the wheel to wobble. I am thinking that early in it's life when it was still under warranty, without digging thru the records at my selling dealer, the left rear hub seal was replaced, also. Which means.......it will probably start leaking again real soon.
Also, in this last service at 110,000 miles, I had to have the turbo boost sensor replaced because it was plugged. The "check engine" light came on. I took it to the dealer and it was throwing a turbo code and two other codes that had to do with emissions. They went in and replaced the turbo boost sensor and reprogrammed the PCM. Now, this thing is running like a brand new truck but, in the last 6,000 miles over the last 5 months, I have spent $1600.00 to keep this thing in tip-top condition. I knew when we bought it in March of 2005, at some point it would need maintaining. Everything does.
Is this normal? Has anyone else had this experience?

Mine isn't as high mileage, so I haven't encountered any problems. I do know in reading posts on another board that front hub replacement is fairly common between 75,000 and 100K. Still, even though you've spent $1600, consider that's less than 3 payments on a new one...

We had a water pump failure after 100k- Still have that annoying but not dangerous klunking in the steering sector- Currently having the instrument cluster repaired ( the temp guage, ammeter, and oil pressure guages are very erratic in the readings ]- But still has all the guts necessary to tow a 15k fiver up the mountains- Will keep maintaining the old girl for the foreseeable future- That's cheaper than making a MONTHLY truck payment- JMHO- Don

My truck has 111,000 miles on it. I have replaced one front wheel bearing at around 75,000 miles and now have another ready to replace. I had two reprograms to fix glitches while under warranty and had a cam positioning sensor replaced under warranty too.
I replaced all the brakes around 70,000 miles.
I expect to start to pay for more things as it racks up the miles but it is a great truck and I plan to keep it for quite a while.

I do understand that the cost of maintenance is a lot cheaper than making payments on a new one. This old Chevy has been a good truck. She has NEVER left me stranded. She still has the original shocks, exhaust system (stainless steel) and batteries. However, I think those will be getting changed soon to the Sears Die-Hards. I have noticed that these don't seem to be cranking that Duramax with the same "zest" they once did.
I figure that, for a while yet, I can justify the cost of maintaining her over the cost of payments and higher cost insurance. Just curious what others are experiencing.

Our is an 01. I had to replace a ball joint at 80,000 and then I had to replace the darned brakes at 175,000(no I don't go through a lot of trailer brakes), had a crack in the plastic tank on the radiator at 182,000 plus a couple batteries, tires, had to have instrument cluster repaired because the display for gear selection didn't work.

We were fishing about 3 years ago one of the guys said his Die Hard battery was the best battery he had ever had. That got me to thinking so I checked my Wal Mart battery . It was the exact same battery as his Die Hard. They both had come out of the same mold. All molds have different machine marks they are as different as fingerprints. One had Die Hard on it and the other had Wal Mart on it. I'm not saying they all are the same but those 2 were.

Front hub replacement are common with GM's...
I've replaced them on several trucks and more recently on my daughter's Cavalier. If you have to replace.... Don't put the OEM back in! For the difference in price and peace of mind I always replaced them with Timkin. IMO well worth the price.
Also.... If one is gone the other side probably isn't too far from failing too so when one goes I always replace both... YMMV

my 2500 03 has 203000 miles and all i have done to it is brakes and they were not bad but wanted to put performance brakes on for better stopping power.

Thanks, everyone for the responses. When it was at the dealer on Monday, they did tell me that the front brakes will need to be changed within the next couple of service intervals. For me, that will be at about 122 to 125,000 miles. All of the brake pads have had to be changed at least once.

i purchased rotors and pad online cheaper and better than factory ones .the rotors where dimpledand brilled fore better braking.they where called EBC brakes .free shipping and no tax if shipped from a different state.truck stopped 50 % better

Sold mine (2003 2500HD) right at 100,000 miles. Had not put a dime into it. Literally, no repairs whatsoever. My only expenses in 8 years had been tires and batteries, plus normal maintenance. Even had the original brakes, despite thousands of miles of towing, a testament to the D/A. I hope this new one treats me just as well.

Guess front end problems must be a common GM thing. Had the front hub assys changed on my 2001 MonteCarlo at approx 100K and again at 200K, don't have it anymore.

90,000 miles one front wheel bearing changed out at the house. Drivers side actuator was blowing hot air out of my vents, did the fix myself too.
