Furnace Fan motor change not for the faint of hear
just finished replaceing the furnace fan motor in our 3400 wow not a easy fix but I went for it an got through it with just a few scrapes on the knuckles I found out why it went out and everyone might take a little care while washing there montys and parking them where the rain hits that side I found that the bottom bearing in the motor sits in a place that collects water and no place to drain like a little pool after time it will rust up and wipe out the motor bearing after looking it over I drilled two little holes on the bottom cage and hope that will do the job I'm sue it will be better now the motor costs about 120.00 and is a pain to get too so thought I'd share this with you in hopes you won't have to fix it too I'm pretty sure I was the one watering the motor while washing not paying attention that just changed lol good luck happy trails

Thanks Tim,
I knew there was hope that I could justify holding out on washing ours. Now there is evidence that not washing is beneficial.....hope DW buys that, ya' think????

No, it's grounded well. The water would have to get real high to be a problem.

no all the wireing is up on the top with two wires about the middle on the outside of the blower shroud just looks to like they didn't think about me when building the furnace if there is a way to break something I'll find the hard way lol I tried to water it and it didn't grow thats what I told my wife just before she wrote the check for the new motor

Tim, what year is your 3400? It probably doesn't matter, they all probably have this same situation. And probably not just the 3400. I don't suppose there's an easy way to access the area to drill a couple of holes, is there?

our monty is a 06 model your probably correct in thinking this problem will be in other models too after talking to the rv guys that I bought the motor from it happens alot they repair about 5 every season all of them had water in the bottom bearing just like mine did they showed us a handfull of these motors they keep in stock so it must be a problem in all models and makes

I did take a look at mine and see exactly what you mean. We see no sign of any water ever collecting on that shelf. Checking in there on a regular basis will became a normal check.

Rich, can you see it clearly enough by just removing the outside cover?

Yes you can Steve and Yours should be exactly like mine. The bottom of the motor sits in a vinyl shelf. Ours was clean and dry but I can see how water might collect.

you are looking at the upper blower shroud the motor sits inside that black housing and sits with the shaft pointing up also down for the intake blower that black housing comes apart with 4 screws but becareful not to drop the ones on the right side they will drop out of reach aprox 1/4 of the motor sits below that shelf if you look at the bottom of the upper fan shroud you will see a hose clamp that centers the motor the wires for the motor are there water will travel right through there and down to the bottom of the motor thus wiping it out it takes a little more than a quick glance hopes this help a bit when you look at the furnace water gets trapped there with no way out

Thanks Rich and Tom. I'll check ours out.
When this Montana was new we had trouble with the furnace. Keystone authorized warranty to pay for parts but we had to pay the service call for a mobile service to come out. He found water stains on the circuit board and said he'd seen a lot like that. Anyhow, apparently there was water on the board when we tried to operate the furnace and it apparently shorted out the board.
