Capital Reef, UT
Has anyone camped around Capital Reef in Utah, if so do you have any recommendations for a three day stay around that area?

Back when diesel prices weren’t so bad, we stayed at Ruby’s Inn at Bryce Canyon. I imagine it will be too warm for boondocking.

We are in the planning stages for next year.
That area is on our list too.
We would like to spend about 50/50 time camping on BLM and commercial Campgrounds while out west.
Two years ago when we made this track we were newbees. We didn't have solar, big battery bank,
generator, Tote or water bladder.
We have done 10 days dry camping on Ocracoke Island OBX NC, so I think we are ready.

Just beware of the heat. We had 104 at Moab and got down to 86. Not good.

Are you doing the complete 5 NP loop around the state? Nice places.
We came thru in August one year and decided it was too hot and went home to AZ. Came back in October and it was still plenty hot then too. Saw a group of motorcycle riders from Europe touring. They had a truck for picking up breakdowns and doing minor repairs. Interesting site.

When? Temps this week have been real nice; highs in mid 70's, but it is starting to warm up. This week highs around 80, lows high 50's. However, it is not hot compared to Glendale. We boondock when we go to Natural Bridges, Capital Reef, Bryce Canyon or Zion. Due to crowds we will not do Zion in the summer. Also, beware of the tunnel at Zion. If you have time, you might also want check (Google) and see if the Navajo Nation is allowing tours of Antelope Canyon (stopped during covid); but wait until it stops raining.

Where do you boondock near Natural Bridges? The only place I could find was a cow pasture with lots of cow patties.

Can't remember, but I think it was an abandoned air strip right next to Hwy 95; nice and flat.

All told we've spent a total of about 6 weeks in area called Uinta Flat.
https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/dixi...a/?recid=72098
Best to come in from the east. You can get there from Cedar City but it's an angry road with a "semi's not recommended" sign. Absolutely beautiful area. High elevation so it's cool when it's unbearable at lower elevations.

I live in Utah and love that area. There are a few improved campground options in the small towns surrounding Capital Reef area; Loa, Bicknell and Torrey Utah. There is also many options for boondocking in that area as well. Some of the popular boondocking apps and websites should be able to provide plenty of options just outside Capital Reef. I recommend the Fruita campground (just inside the park) or the high elevation Fish lake area campsites (lakeside resort);it's at 8800' elevation and temps are in 20 to 25 degrees cooler. It's a short drive from Fish lake to Capital Reef and other national parks and scenic drives.
