Info on NEW Chevy's
Before I state my question, I am not trying to start a "Brand" war, however I see a lot of posts about Fords And Dodges but very little about the new Chevys.
I am just looking for any potential problems on the new Chevys, I have a '08 3500 DRW D/A with 2,000 miles. So far it is performing perfectly, no recalls that I know of. For those of you that have this truck, are you having any problems, or have you heard of things to watch for. I cannot stand breakdowns on the road and would like to head off anything like that.
Thanks for your candid replies.

Phil, Not exactly what you are looking for, but I have the 2007 Classic (pre regeneration) 2500. I now have 14k and not a single problem. I have had it to 2 dealers for Oil and filters changed, but nothing else.
The only problem I have is its black, and gets dirty quickly

Phil as you know I have the same truck as you except a GMC 07'. I only have 3500 on mine with no problems at all.
This is our fourth GMC Dually and extremely happy with it. I can't believe the power and Torque!

Phil, I have one of those double throw down Bowties, 3500 4dr, 4wd, DRW, D/A. I can hook up to a 40ft float loaded 2 high with round bails of hay and go on down the road or I can hook up to the Monty and go cruising. Truck has worked pretty hard so far, a little over 10,000 miles, no problems.

exav8tr, Sorry I though I was replying to your post in ref to the new 2008 Chevy 3500's. It was put as a new post, sorry about that. Anyway thats only the 2nd time I have ever went back to the dealership with the 2500HD's or the 3500HD's. Just change the filters (Oil & Fuel) and the Oil and you will have minor problems. Also I might say make sure you rotate the tires if you have a 4x4 thats a problem with ever 4x4 I have owned. I keep saying I will not get the 4x4 option, however its about impossible to find the HD series Trucks that aren't 4x4's. Its tuff but I guess I will just have to live with it. GBY...

Phil: If you're not familiar with it, check out dieselplace.com. If there are people with issues, they will be present there. It is a large widely visited forum for Duramx/Allison owners only. I learned a lot from that forum, and corrected some potential problems ahead of time by performing some simple maintenance tasks on my LLY D/M. The categories are pretty much broken down by version (year) of D/M that you have.

Problems? I'm seriously considering trading my 06 D/A 2500 for the DRW 3500 LTZ package!!! If I had a longer bed, the on-board brake control system and 34 gallon tank in my current Chevy I'd never consider the trade she's been so flawless over 36K miles in 2 years service.

I have an 05 GMC so I won't be much help but I would like to point out that both my 03 with the D/A and my 05 had intermediate steering shaft problems. The 03 they replaced the shaft and I had no further problems. The 05 they lubed the shaft and with over 40,000 on that lube I have also had no further problems. This past Sept I did breakdown in Alabama due to a collapsed fuel filter. As it was due for service anyway, I had it serviced with a new fuel filter and again no further problems.
Because the last 2 GMs have given me very little problems my next TV will also be a GM.

Thanks everyone for the reassuring replies. I did have good luck with my 2500, it just seems that every year there is always something that needs to be "worked out". Time will tell, I guess!!!!!!

There is lots of good information there, but, like most forums, a lot of bad information. There was a thread on it today about dually towing, and here's a response:
"My trailer can be up to 28,000 lbs. Once I add another axle to the trailer, it can be up to around 35,000 lbs."

If my math is correct, with a GVWR of 11,400 and a trailer of 35,000, he has a GCW of 46,400. That's only 22,900 over the rating...what's 11.5 tons among friends.
