Attic vents
I have to apologize but I am still feeling my way around the forum. I do not know if there is anything on the forum about attic vents. I just got on the roof of my trailer this weekend and found the same round vent caps I had on my Open Range. I don't know if anyone has had the experience but these will come loose and fall off. I had one come off my previous trailer but was lucky enough to see it come off. I replaced it and wired it back on so ir would mot come loose again. I just did the same with the Montana roof vents this weekend. If anyone would like to know ask and I will describe what I did. If you loose the round 6 inch disc covering the vent, you have an open 5 inch hole in your roof that will let water pour into your trailer and eventually into your interior. Check to make sure your vents are tight if they are still there

Have heard of this happening, but in 6 years and over 70K never had that problem with the old rig.

I had this happen with the rear attic vent but luckily the dealer gave me the replacement cap for free. I always check to make sure they are tight now but I (plus probably other members) would like to know how you wire them down. TIA

Hi Gary. I remember you from the Open Range forum. We joined about the same time. Nice to have you onboard.

Because the big ones are threaded on they can vibrate loose. Have never lost one, but I check them when I wash down the roof. Have had to replace a couple of times, they don't hold up so well in the sun.

Never had one come loose. But they did start to crumble after about 7 years. I bought new ones, removed the mushroom caps, and screwed the new caps onto the old bases which were still in good shape.

Ditto, just did this last week. The original ones on my 2009 were sun rotted.
I found them at my local Montana dealership, Curtis Trailers, for $11.25 each assembly, but you can also find them on e-bay for about the same price or a bit more. I also bought 3 of the holding tank vent assemblies at the same time for $2.99 each.
Camping World was completely clueless about them, even though they carry the High Country models in my area. I told them that these caps are on almost every RV out there, ....blank stares!

I remove the cap. There are about 5 spokes inside the base. I twist a piece of drop ceiling wire onto one of the spokes.positioning it toward the outside edge of the base. I then screw the cap back on letting the wire hang outside the vent ( bending it down the side of the base so you can screw the cap on). Where the wire comes out I drill a small hole in the cap and then thread the wire through the cap and give it a couple twists. Cut the excess wire and you should be good to go

Hey Wally,
Thanks. If you remember, we were looking to buy a Montana when we bought the other trailer. It just delayed our Montana purchase 7 years.
